Erfan successfully completed a Cambridge English CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) between 9th September and 2nd October 2015. He was one of a small number of participants to be awarded the highest possible grade, a Pass B.
Erfan was extremely hard-working on the course and clearly committed to developing himself, and to learning. He participated well in input sessions, and took all aspects of the course seriously. He completed all written components of the course – assignments, lesson planning and observation write-ups – in a timely manner, often well ahead of deadlines and to a good standard.
Erfan planned independently to a very high standard. He was able to identify lesson aims, making these clear, appropriate and achievable. His plans were detailed, logically-staged and easy to follow. He showed a good ability to exploit and adapt materials creatively and effectively. He has very good language awareness and so was able to analyse language well and anticipate a good range of problems.
Erfan delivered effective skills and language focus lessons at low (Elementary – A1/2) and high (Intermediate – B1) levels. He has a very good presence in the classroom; confident, friendly and encouraging. This meant he was able to build and maintain good rapport at both levels, and kept the students engaged and involved. His lessons were generallly student-centred. He developed a good range of teaching skills, including eliciting, some excellent drilling, checking meaning, monitoring and providing appropriate feedback, all of which he is able to use to good effect. His own use of language was appropriately graded, clear and accurate. He has a good understanding of the learning process, and so was able to manage it in such a way that the students gained a lot from his lessons.
Erfan made excellent progress on the course, being motivated, reliable and punctual, and supporting his peers well. He showed himself to be professional throughout, coping apparently seamlessly with a highly intensive and demanding course. We know he put considerable hours outside course time into study and preparation, and this clearly paid dividends on the course. He was very receptive to feedback, which he acted on, and reflected well on both his own and his peers’ lesson. He has shown the ability to be a very effective teacher, and a dedicated and focused course participant.
It is for all the reasons that we would happily recommend Erfan, and would like to take this opportunity to wish him luck for the future.
