About Emily
I am a 29-year-old native English speaker with over four years of experience teaching a wide range of students in language schools in South Korea and here in the UK. This has included teaching classes of up to 30 students as well as teaching 1:1.
Although I began teaching monolingual classes in South Korea, I have gained a lot of experience teaching multilingual classes in the UK, which have included classes with students from a diverse variety of backgrounds. Previous students have also included a wide range of ages, from 8 to 80!
I work in several language schools during weekdays and also run my own business from home but I am happy to travel to students on most weekday evenings or afternoons. This usually works well for many adults and teenagers who have work or school during the day. However, if you require weekend tuition this can be arranged for a slightly higher fee.
I am very experienced with teaching classes which focus on preparing students for exams such as IELTS, TOEFL and CAE but have also had the opportunity to teach classes focusing on Business English, Creative writing, Pronunciation, Academic reading and General English.

- How much do you charge?
My rates start from £20 per hour depending on the challenge and location of assignment. Fees are agreed before commencement of tuition and depend upon the level of tuition, distance to travel and necessary preparation. I believe that there is a huge range in quality and value provided by tutors across the UK. My rates reflect my experience and ensure that students receive the highest possible standard of service.
- Where do you teach?
I'm happy to travel within a reasonable distance of Bristol. This includes but is not limited to, Bath, Swindon, Gloucester, Cardiff, Weston-super-mare, Exeter.

My teaching methods are very adaptable,depending on the needs and circumstances of each student. During our first lesson I try to get a very clear idea of what the student's goals are and their personality, in order to ascertain what teaching approaches they might benefit from the most.
For younger students,I generally try to make the lessons as fun and creative as possible to improve their confidence and try to break up lessons with learning games where possible in order to keep their motivation high.
For exam focused or mature students I help them to identify and work on their weak areas and encourage them to discover their own style of learning so that they can continue learning independently outside of our lessons. I've found that encouraging students to analyse everyday examples of written English such as magazine and newspaper articles is very effective in helping them to use English in a more natural and authentic way.
Regardless of age or experience I think it's crucial to make lessons relatable, interesting and relaxed for students and I strive to give them the best advantages possible in their future plans.
I prefer not to offer online/skype classes as I feel this takes away the personal element of 1:1 teaching and does not offer students the best opportunity to learn. However, in light of the Covid19 pandemic I am temporarily offering this as an alternative if in-person tutoring is not possible.
