About Eleanor

Engaging and effective art tutor

Adept at building a students confidence and skill in visual arts I am a practicing artist and experienced art tutor.

I specialise in teaching observational drawing skills, giving students a grounding which can be applied to all visual mediums and approaches in art. I plan engaging sessions to develop a students understanding and skill of tone, colour, proportion, mark making, composition and form.

I am also able to look through and advise on GCSE and A Level coursework. I am happy to help set tasks and create a schedule to ensure course work is finished on time. Please let me know which curriculum you are studying.

My own work is centred on large scale drawings of imagined structures and landscapes. I also use sculptural mediums to create installations and reliefs.

I have been teaching art for the past 10 years to ages of 8 and above in venues across London including the Whitechapel Gallery, The Museum of Childhood and Kensington Palace. I have also spent time as an artist in residence in a secondary grammar school and teach art workshops in primary and secondary schools. I was recently given the opportunity to travel to India to teach university students on foundation and BA Painting courses at The International Institute of Fine Art near Delhi.

I have experience of teaching both children and adults with a range of special educational needs.

Please get in touch to arrange a suitable lesson time and to talk about how I can tailor lessons to suit you. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions.

A thorough and supportive teacher with excellent communication

Written by Emma S
I have taught with El in the Whitechapel Gallery and have since set up a company with her named Root Drawing to teach observational drawing in London.
She is a clear and thorough teacher with very good communication. She is supportive to students of all abilities and allows them the space to learn. I have been inspired by the fresh and exciting ideas she comes up with for classes and when reviewing work.

Excellent teacher

Written by Ruby M
Eleanor has been amazing teaching all the painting workshops that I have held. She has been able to break down famous paintings into manageable chunks for a mixed level group -about 15 to 20 participants. They have all walked away with wonderful canvases and been very proud of their work. I look forward to working together in the future.
