About Edwin
Currently working as an Economic Advisor for the UK Government, in the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
I am a History and Economics graduate from Oxford University, having achieved 12A*s at GCSE and A*A*Aa at A level (History, Economics, Maths, Further Maths).
I am enthusiastic about both history and economics and am keen to spread astute understanding and greater awareness of not only knowledge and content, but true understanding and critical thinking in these disciplines.
With economics, I try to help the student to understand the core economic theory so that they can confidently apply economic concepts to different scenarios and questions with flexibility. I am patient, considerate and keen to gradually build the student's confidence in their subject
On the history side, I advocate a thematic methodological teaching style. Anyone can learn dates, facts and the names of famous people. But the key to understanding history (and getting good grades!) is to critically assess evidence, to have coherent organisation of ideas and to synthesis a cogent argument. I aim to teach the student historical techniques which will give them an edge over other students.
I can teach History and Economics at A level and GCSE level.
If you are interested in applying to Oxbridge, I can provide tips for interview and the application process as well.
I want to imbue in my students a keen sense of critical thinking, not necessarily just to pass an exam and gain a piece of paper, but to think differently and stand out of the crowd by asking the right questions to get closer to a 'right' answer in their future careers and lives.
Will conduct lessons over Zoom by default, but willing to travel within London on request.
