About Claudia

An energetic person with passion and contagious enthusiasm.

I have been a private tutor for eight years and teach English and Drama. I get students up to speed for their 11+, SATS, GCSE and A-Level exams. I also prepare children for the 11+ entrance interview and general presentation skills; GCSE/A Level coursework and exam preparation for English and Drama.

For the 11+, my focus is English but I also teach Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. My students have passed exams for schools such as Henrietta Barnet, St Pauls, Tiffin, St Augustine's Priory, Notting Hill & Ealing, St James, North London Collegiate Schools, Wilson Grammar, WCGS and others.

I know that young children, but to some degree all young people, would rather be doing anything but an hour's tutoring. This is why my teaching style is full of energy and enthusiasm. I try to make learning as fun as possible and the subjects I teach as exciting and engaging for my students as I find them myself.

With a BA in English and Drama at the University of Roehampton, I am currently in the process of applying for a Master's at a London drama school. Having worked freelance for a long time, unqualified, I wish to gain a teaching qualification after my Master's, with the aim of going into comprehensive secondary schools, teaching Drama and English. I have previously worked in and out of schools in many different posts; private tutor, teaching assistant (national curriculum and within youth theatres), sports coach, drama facilitator, running workshops and in SEN.

I teach Shakespeare and early modern language to all ages in workshops and one-to-one sessions. I work part time as an actor and also teach Drama and Acting, including the LAMDA exam; incorporating this skill in more academic sessions to make classes fun for children and young adults.

I spent a lot of time working with a range of mild to intensely SEN children in my year-long post at the Linden Lodge school in Southfields, so have great experience with additional needs.

Having taught in many areas of education has given me a wider knowledge of all the different individuals I will meet and need to nuture.

To sum up; I am a passionate about theatre and education. I have a lot of experience in the many different and nuanced areas of English and Theatre Studies and impress upon all of my students the importance of hard work, nicely balanced with the fun times!

Highly recommended!

Written by Ranjeev V
Claudia is a fantastic teacher. She has helped our son in English at his pace without putting too much pressure on the child. We have seen tremendous improvement in his vocabulary, grammar, sentence construction, creative writing, etc. Thanks to her that our son cleared Wilson's Grammar and WCGS selective exams.

We highly recommend her.

Claudia Carroll - perfect tutor

Written by Simona U
Claudia is a very literate, kind, polite and knowledgeable person. She is very patient and explains very well. My daughter and Claudia had a very good relationship. It was a good mixture of effective learning and having a chat, i.e. about the best books to read.

Although my daughter took some 11+ admission tests we decided in the end on a completely different school. However, her general knowledge benefitted immensely from Claudia's tutoring.

Tutoring 10-year old boy

Written by Sarah Jane H
Despite being a ferocious reader with an extensive vocabulary, our 10-year old struggles with English and is below national average making the 11plus a stretch for him. The last thing he wants to do is a couple of hours of English extra each week but Claudia gets him and is working through the more difficult topics that he would otherwise ignore or refuse to try. It's slow because of his baseline ability/learning difficulties but Claudia is breaking it down in bite-size manageable chunks and the progress is steady and he is learning which is the best we could have hoped for at this stage! Would certainly recommend Claudia as an English tutor. She is engaging, encouraging, patient, enthusiastic and fun!

English Outcome

Further to my previous review, I would like to share some news. Following 11+ entrance exams, my daughter was offered to be an Academic Scholar at one of the leading independent schools for girls in Ealing and also a place at one of The North London Independent Girls School Consortium schools. Claudia deserves a huge amount of credit for taking a child having English as a second language to the highest achievable level. Well done! Thank you
