About Chris

Piano Teacher: Friendly, Warm and Experienced

I began teaching piano whilst studying music at York University and now have over ten years of experience, having taught well over a hundred students.

I play to a diploma level having taken my grade 8 whilst at school. I teach all abilities and ages and have a great deal of experience with children. I have worked as a peripatetic piano teacher at the London Oratory School for the last three years, working with children from the ages of 7 up to 18 years old.

As well as playing the piano, I play Irish traditional music on the fiddle. I also play the guitar and mandolin and the bodhran.

My teaching method covers technique, theory and harmony through the practicality of exploring pieces together and is founded on giving the student a love of music.

Great piano Teacher

Written by Iman Q
Chris has been teaching me Grade 1 piano at my home since January 2015.

I've progressed faster than I expected to, and certainly much faster than I did with my previous piano teacher. Whereas previously I spent a lot of time working from a book and doing dry scales, Chris mixes the lessons up and his approach is more holistic, which I prefer.

We spend some time going over music theory, and occasionally some music history. Chris also pays attention to the sorts of music that I find interesting and enjoy. Chris gives me a number of piano pieces to listen to as homework, and I really enjoy this part of homework.

I think Chris' great strength is being able to recognise any difficulties I am struggling with at a really early stage and address them with simple exercises or explanations. This means that I never remain stuck on the same thing for too long, and that I'm able to learn and progress faster.

Chris is flexible with days and timings, and is happy to accommodate my working hours. He is trustworthy, punctual, cheerful, and up for a chat about anything. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone wanting piano lessons, at any level.
