Consolations for Education

I love education, and I think the biggest problem with it as in institution is the way people are taught to just pass their exams. Certainly, getting good grades is important for that next step in life/society/etc, but all that gets much easier once you actually start to take a personal interest in what you're learning, and perhaps begin to enjoy it; because learning should be fun - and it always is, when it's done right.

Anyone can learn the facts of a textbook--given enough time and attention to those books, anyone can pass an exam. But, of course, there is not always enough time, and so my methods of teaching involve exploring the questions that draw the material from the page and work their way in to life. When this works, it might get a little easier to understand how the material is significant to oneself, and often even amusing. And the material won't be something that has to be remembered, because it "just is".

I enjoy helping to achieve goals; but more than this, I relish the learnings of the journey. And so, if you want to learn about something the way you learn about yourself, I would be honoured and pleased to help.

Reference: Charlie Yang

I taught Charlie (Jeremy Yang) on an MA module in Modernist Literature and Art at the University of Westminster (2014/15). I found him an exceptionally keen, self-motivated, and intelligent student who was a pleasure to have in the class. His essay for the module (on Wyndham Lewis, the body and laughter) was of 'Distinction' quality.

Inspiring maths and english tutor for children

Charlie was an engaging and inspiring tutor for children aged 5-15. He was loved by our membership and had a great influence on our Creative Writing class where he led a team to write and produce their own play.
Charlie was competant with his maths knowledge and gave great feedback to children on how to develop and where they did particularly well. His relationship and rapport building skills were second to none and was a defnite favourite amongst out tutor team.

Charlie was incredible. In my son's words who had the maths lesson with him: "Charlie was so fun and he made everything so easy for me to understand. Please can he come again next week!" Thank you Charlie!!

Charlie is an amazing English language tutor

Charlie helped me out with my IELTS exam preparation. After only a year of learning English with Charlie's help I was able to get a grade of 7 on the exam which was higher than the minimum requirement for my university and completely unexpected for anyone who knew me before I started learning the language. I have now successfully graduated from UCL and I could not imagine this happening without Charlie's help. He was very patient, understanding, disciplined and his amazing sense of humour made it interesting for me to learn the language. I believe Charlie's enthusiasm, motivation, perseverance, communication skills and patience make him great in his job and I could not imagine a person who Charlie would not get along with. It is for these reasons that I offer high recommendations for Charlie without reservation.

unreliable tutor

Charlies first class with us was not impressive. he wasn't engaged with the children and seemed to not care. On his second class he cancelled a few hours before leaving us in a terrible position of having to frantically find a solution for the children. we would have appreciated more notice as we would have had time to find a substitute.
finally his response to this was extremely rude and dramatic wherein he clearly didn't sympathise with the situation, the children or the parents.
If you are looking for reliable, efficient, caring & polite tutors I wouldn't recommend Charlie
