About Charlie

Experienced, approachable tutor with dyslexia experience

I believe that very often academic troubles are rooted in a deflated confidence. I was diagnosed with dyslexia comparatively late, when I was seventeen, which has led me to develop my own techniques for studying and has left me with a particular ability to communicate complex ideas straighforwardly. Often, when I am approached to help boost a child's grade going into an exam period or prepare them for an interview, I am careful to ensure that rather than teaching the student simply to 'jump through hoops' I check that they are also aware of the broader task that is being asked of them. Many students do not, whether through poor teaching or a lack of encouragement, have a grasp of fundamentals. These can usually be learned within a couple of hours and once done will have a tremendous impact on how they approach their future work. I have also developed broad experience at drama school about the importance of teaching in totality. To quote Ken Robinson, one should be weary of educating people out of their creative capacities.

Ref Charlie M

Written by Virge G
Charlie came to tutor my son Felix after we had been told he couldn't sit GCSE English.. Felix is dyspraxic and has slow processing, and was really struggling.
Charlie came for 2 years and explained things in a way that Felix could understand, backed up everything the teacher was covering at school and most importantly gave him much needed confidence. A really fantastic tutor.
Felix narrowly missed a C grade - but without Charlie's help he wouldn't have been able to sit the exam! He is now at Art College and will resit English in time, and hopefully get a C, now t
