About Charis

Versatile Tutor for GCSE students and younger

I am a responsible and enthusiastic person dedicated to helping others. Over the years, I have had several opportunities to further my teaching abilities on a volunteer basis, which has improved my planning, confidence and communication with children and young adults.

My mother is a teacher and so I have frequently helped out with not only planning and marking, but also in the classroom; I have acted in the role of unpaid classroom assistant as well as assisting on consecutive years with the Christmas production. This required a level of authority and discipline, as well as the ability to help the children with acting and singing.

For the first half of 2011, I also conducted private violin lessons for a music teacher at a local school, giving her the necessary skills and ability to teach the instrument in class.

More recently, from February 2014 to July 2014, I volunteered in Peru, working primarily in the education sector, in order to improve the children's future opportunities. I worked in local schools teaching English with no assistance from the teachers. This required a high level of planning and organisation; it also required confidence and discipline, to teach and keep control over a large class in a foreign language.

In February - March 2015 I also volunteered in the English Martyrs School, assisting GCSE English students who were struggling with the subject. I was required to plan in advance and find inventive ways to present the subject in a way the students could understand.

I am very flexible with my time and willing to put in any necessary work to ensure that students get the maximum possible help and support with their subjects.

She established a good working relationship with the students she mentored and was able to engage and motivate the students successfully. Charis had a clear understanding of the skills and strategies needed for the OCR exam board and prepared her activities thoroughly.
Students were much more motivated to revise and enjoyed the activities Charis did with them. The students said they felt more confident in their own ability and the students concerned achieved their t

Reliable, empathetic and enthusiastic support assistant at St Paul's Middle School, Alnwick

Written by Frances B
Charis is a reliable, empathetic and enthusiastic person who has good subject knowledge and is able to impart this knowledge successfully to others. She prepares well for sessions but is also able to think on her feet when the occasion requires it. The pupils responded well to her during after-school rehearsal sessions, being keen to improve under her guidance. Charis is able to work on her own with small groups and is keen to lead by example. She is punctual, well-organised and creative in her approach. Overall, she approached her tasks with a well-mannered, mature attitude which made her popular with staff and pupils alike.
The school benefited from her expertise, both in supporting small groups to perform scenes successfully and in enabling individual pupils to improve their performing skills. She supported musical ens

Fantastic help at Tutorfair event

Written by Tutorfairy F
Charis was a great help at the Leicester event that the Tutorfair team attended to tell university students about how they can earn money and help others through working with us. She was cheerful, friendly and committed which was brilliant for us. I'm sure Charis will be equally good when tutoring one on one!
