About Catherine
I have a proven track record of supporting students to achieve excellent results in GCSE and A Level History. I have successfully taught OCR A Level as well as AQA (nineteenth century specialism). I previously taught OCR and Edexcel for GCSE and am currently teaching CIE IGCSE.
I have over a decade of experience of helping students to achieve their full potential, having worked in large comprehensive schools as well as the independent sector. Having spent a number of years as Head of Humanities, I then had responsibility for Teaching and Learning. I know how students learn and what makes effective teaching and this was verified by Ofsted. I have also written for the Gifted and Talented Update magazine.
My approach is to help students understand the content required for the exam by breaking it down into manageable amounts. Then, I work to ensure students understand the requirements of the exam and how to decode the exam questions. This may involve looking at model answers, exam mark schemes or writing frames. I believe feedback is key to success and tuition works so effectively as students are able to act instantly on feedback to improve their work.
I have also worked extensively with students to help them to organise their approach to revision/improve their study skills. This help can be used to improve progress across the whole curriculum.
I am kind, well-prepared and exceptionally well organised. This allows me to support students effectively and for them to make the best possible progress.
