About Carly
I completed the International Baccalaureate in 2014 with 41 points and went on to study Biomedical Sciences at the University of Warwick, graduating with a First Class Honours degree in 2017. Shortly after completing the diploma, I began tutoring IB Biology students online, face-to-face and in small classes at revision courses in London, Stockholm and Geneva. I continued to do so alongside my studies, tutoring over 220 IB students in total over the 3 years. I spent the following year working full-time within the IB sphere, being invited to speak at some of the world’s top IB schools across 17 countries. During my visits, I would give presentations and lead interactive workshops on topics such as revision techniques and study skills. I met with over 2,000 IB students in 80 schools, sharing my own personal experiences and best tips to help them achieve top results.
Over the years, I have collated an extensive portfolio of engaging and concise teaching material (presentations, worksheets, help guides) across the whole SL and HL Biology syllabi (including optional modules) with proven effectiveness. In my lessons, I focus heavily on how to apply knowledge to exam questions, including techniques to guarantee success in papers 1, 2 and 3. I am a very empathetic, patient and encouraging tutor, able to adapt to the ability and learning style of each student - whether you’re striving for a pass or need a 7 to get into medical school, I’ve got you covered!
I am also happy to help with Internal Assessments and Extended Essays. As a student, my biology-based extended essay titled ‘can the common garden snail see in colour’ (wacky I know!) attained the top grade and won two national science awards.
I’ve worked with IB examiners and was employed to check the content of the Kognity IB Biology textbooks used by many schools worldwide. This has ensured that my skills as a tutor go beyond the syllabus alone, encompassing an understanding of the course structure and assessment criteria.
Now onto logistics! I live and work in central Cambridge (AstraZeneca) and get around by bike and on foot. I am available outside of normal office hours in evenings (6pm onwards) and on weekends to tutor. If you live further afield, I am happy to travel to you, travel arrangements can be made upon enquiry. I look forward to hearing from you!

I have had the pleasure of working with Carly over the last 5 years, acting as Course Director and Head of Online Tutoring for a Private Education company.
In this time, she has amassed hundreds of hours of Online Teaching in Biology, and taught over 20 different Biology classes of varying levels. In addition, she was part of the team that spearheaded the introduction of Online Courses.
Having sat in on many of Carly's lessons, I recommend her with the utmost confidence. Her explanations are clear and easy to follow, while still delivering the necessary level of detail! She uses her additional experience of studying Biomedical Sciences to compliment her knowledge of the syllabus, all while keeping the lessons fun and engaging.Carly honestly works wonders. I was never too great at Biology, especially when it came to my higher level IB biology course. From a predicted 3.5 (out of 7), Carly and I managed to pull it up to almost a 6 (out of 7) in just 6 sessions.
When she tutors, she takes her time to explain complex concepts at a simplified, understandable level. Then once a concept is made clear she adds on other parts to make it more scientific. For me, one of the biggest pro's is that she shows interest in the student, values them, takes her time to explain things, and while teaching asks questions to make sure the student actually understands what's going on.
I had a fantastic experience with her, and she has definitely helped me master my biology!View more recommendations
