I am a charismatic, organised and personable individual looking to help students achieve their full potential through interactive learning. Although I specialise in English tutoring, I also have experience in Maths, French and Drama.
I graduated with a first class English degree from the University of Nottingham in July 2017. My course covered a vast range of disciplines within the subject, including medieval literature and Old English, literature from 1500-present, English Language, and drama modules. My dissertation focused on Jacobean drama, namely Shakespeare and his contemporaries. I am happy to tutor content included in the curriculum, work on refining essay writing technique and critical thinking skills, and I can recommend some further reading.
Prior to my degree, I studied Mathematics, English Literature and French to A-Level, achieving A in all. I have also lived in France for the past 8 months, working as an English language assistant in two French lycées (colleges). I am therefore confident teaching both French and Mathematics to GCSE level.
My dramatic experiences range from extracurricular to academic (Drama GCSE and various drama modules on my degree course). I was a drama assistant at the Nottingham Playhouse alongside my studies, helping in drama workshops with both 2-4 and 14-16 year olds. Consequently, I have experience of drama both in and out of the classroom.
I have experience of working with young people, not only at the Nottingham Playhouse, but I also worked as a Public Speaking and Debate tutor for LITE Regal Education, planning and delivering lessons as part of a summer school for international students at Birkbeck College, London. Furthermore, as previously mentioned, I have just finished working in France, where I planned and delivered English lessons to French teenagers; I therefore have experience within a formal educative setting.
I am friendly, motivated and enthusiastic, and I always aim to infuse my teaching with that same enthusiasm. Every student is different and learns differently so I like to listen to my students and impart my knowledge in a way that engages them the most and grasps their interest.
I have an enhanced DBS check (valid from April 2018).
