About Bernice

A friendly, patient, experienced tutor in London

Hi! I'm Bernice and I tutor Primary and Secondary students across all ages and capabilities. I've been tutoring since 2011 and have worked as a Primary school practitioner for the last 6 years. During this time I have tutored students across the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2, as well as students preparing for their 11+ and A-Level Psychology exams. I am passionate about my subjects and about tutoring! I work individually with students to find out their strengths and areas they'd like to improve and then set targets that we can work towards. From this I tailor sessions to meet their level and style of learning. One of the great aspects of being a tutor is being able to further a student's confidence and enthusiasm for a subject, and therefore helping them to achieve those desired academic results. My core subjects are Psychology and Drama up to A-Level, and Primary level (Reception to Year 6) across all subjects. I have extensive experience with Letters and Sounds, Jolly Phonics and Read Write Inc. phonics programmes, additionally I cover 11+ entrance exams and prepare students for entry to Drama school, having trained as an actor.

TA in Reception class (Primary)

Written by Abigail W
I am a class teacher at St Michael’s primary school. Bernice worked with me as a TA last year in my Reception class. She is an excellent teaching practitioner, helping to plan and carry out a variety of creative activities for the children and working with small groups on phonics and maths interventions, supporting children with a range of needs. Bernice was an attribute to the class, providing superb pastoral support to the children and working very effectively as a team member. Subsequently, Bernice has been providing additional tutoring support to individual children in the class, focusing on Maths and literacy skills where she has built an excellent reputation with parents.

Bernice has been giving school support to my son (5 years old) for several months.
She has covered a wide range of areas (maths, reading, writing/spelling) and tailored her lessons according to my son's needs.
She always approached the sessions with fun and enjoyable material to encourage my son's involvement.
Her great ability to communicate with children, patience and encouraging manners were a plus on top of her excellent teaching skills.
She has definitely helped my son to go through key stages of his learning process and he was always very much looking forward to his sessions with Bernice.

Excellent Tutor!

Bernice tutored my daughter Psychology at A2 level. Bernice was very quick at marking papers, provided good and clear feedback on the areas to focus on. Her approach was one of patience and kindness. She was clearly knowledgeable about her subject and was both enthusiastic and passionate about Psychology. She was both supportive and understanding about what my daughter needed, always on time and kept good communication through e mailing and texting. An excellent Tutor, highly recommended!
