I teach GCSE & A-level students, undergraduates and postgraduates, and offer both ongoing lessons or one-off help with projects.
I have many years experience teaching mathematics, statistics and computer programming, and applications of these subjects to fields such as economics, finance, machine learning and data science. See below for a list of areas covered.
Each student is different, and I adjust my teaching method depending on their needs.
After consulting with the student I will collect the relevant teaching materials (notes, exercises, past papers, etc) and make a plan. Initial lessons will follow this plan, and after getting a feel for the strengths and weaknesses of the student the plan can be adjusted to match. I try to engage the student as much as possible by asking questions to make sure they understand, and posing problems for them to solve. I make sure that they learn the key concepts and skills which enable them to more easily master the subject material.

Perfect! Very clear explanations
Perfect! He explains things so clearly, I wish I had a teacher like hem in my college days. He is out of the world. Really really love his work. Have a doubt in stats don’t worry!! Many thanks from Saudi Arabia.
- Ben's response :Good student just starting out in her statistics Ph.D. She needed some help understanding some papers on sliced inverse regression (a dimension reduction technique) for time series analysis, and some help with R programming.
She was not afraid to ask basic questions while I went through the theory & examples on the whiteboard, making sure that she understood every step.
Perfect! Professional, clear and concise. Took the time to fully understand the issue before explaining what I was struggling with, excellent!
Perfect! Explained from first principles, excellent.
- Ben's response :Keen & motivated

I am profoundly grateful for Ben's dedication and highly recommend his services to anyone seeking a rewarding and supportive tutoring experience. Thank you, Ben, for everything!
Perfect! Genius
- Ben's response :Good listener. Helped her understand some proofs in a research paper for her machine learning Ph.D.
Perfect! Great lesson, Ben is an excellent tutor who took the time to go over some questions I had around logistic regressions, very helpful, dedicated and committed!
- Ben's response :Good student.
Perfect! Ben is an excellent tutor. He was very helpful and helped me with my assignment.
Perfect! Great few lessons with Ben, he was very supportive and took the time to explain everything in detail.
- Ben's response :Good student. Helped him with some linear programming and risk analysis.
Perfect! My sessions with Ben have been really positive. He explains concepts and ideas diligently. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with Ben on my project.
- Ben's response :Good student who needed some help with panel data modelling in stata for a finance project since he had not done studied this before. He was able to get a grasp of the statistical concepts & stata knowhow I taught him in the limited time available.
Perfect! Ben is a fantastically patient and clear tutor! He is helping me revise for a university exam I have little background in and is able to break down complex subjects into extremely manageable building blocks, enabling me to truly understand what I am doing rather than regurgitating methods. His statistics knowledge astounds and is able to reformulate his teachings to match my syllabus specifications. Highly recommend!
Perfect! Ben explained complex concepts and coding brilliantly. He was incredibly helpful and very generous with his time. Really helped my sons confidence in this complex area. Highly recommend him.
- Ben's response :Jane's son Gregor needed some help with matlab and statistics. He was able to grasp statistical ideas quickly, but needs to get more familiar with matlab programming.
Perfect! My granddaughter was delighted with her lesson and has booked 2 more
- Ben's response :Good student. I have been helping her do some harmonic analysis with matlab since she is new to computer programming.
Perfect! Very clear in explanations.
- Ben's response :Hakeem is a good student just wanted a bit of help with linear programming and AMPL

Although I hadn't studied probability or statistics beforehand I decided to take some advanced econometrics courses during my degree to improve my job prospects, and get a better understanding of how to analyze economic policy. Ben gave me a good grounding in basic probability theory and also helped me with the more advanced stuff throughout the course. I went on to be accepted onto my first choice of masters which built on the econometrics principles I learnt with Ben. I now work in energy market analytics. Ben’s help and knowledge has been invaluable to get me into the career path I wanted!
Ben was a great tutor during my masters. I wasn’t confident with my maths however, after spending a few weeks with Ben I felt well prepared for my exam. Ben has a great skill and is very good at simplifying things step by step. He was also very patient with me when I wasn’t sure. I would highly recommend Ben as a tutor.
Ben not only made me understand statistics, but also like it. A brilliant teacher. I highly recommend.
I worked with Ben for help in Master's level statistics. He explained things in an accessible way and was patient with many questions! I was happy with my subsequent progress in the course, thanks to his help. Thanks Ben!
Dr Veal has been helping me with my 2nd year undergrad probability & statistics course.
He is very knowledgeable and very good at explaining concepts and problem solving techniques that were not explained clearly by my lecturer. I highly recommend him as a tutor.
Ben helped to demistify stats and econometrics for me. Thanks for taking the time to explain concepts to me from scratch.
