About Ben
I am a professional Actor and freelance acting coach based in London with a special focus on coaching for Drama School auditions.
ABOUT ME:
As an Actor I work extensively across TV and Film (for the BBC & HBO) as well as in the Theatre (in the West End, The Old Vic, Shakespeare's Globe, and on Broadway).
However I also try to make time in my schedule to offer coaching to student who are truly passionate about acting because I love collaborating to find the perfect monologues, then working together to build your confidence, and get your pieces to a point where you're excited to show them off!
AUDITION COACHING:
Having spent a number of years on the audition panel for Drama Centre London - one of the country's top drama schools - I have a very detailed understanding of what drama schools are looking for in applicants; particular recent school leavers for whom getting in, without thorough preparation, can be extremely difficult.
As well as Drama School auditions, I also offer comprehensive coaching in preparations for:
National Youth Theatre Auditions (NYT)
LAMDA Examinations
Professional Acting Auditions
Many of my students have received offers from some of the country's most prestigious drama schools (including RADA, LAMDA, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Bristol Old Vic and RSAMD)
CONFIDENCE COACHING/PUBLIC SPEAKING:
For those that work in a more corporate setting I offer one-to-one coaching with presentation skills and general confidence for the work place.
Do you find presenting to a large group nerve-racking or difficult?
If so, I can work with you to build your confidence in front of a group, and change the way that you approach public speaking forever (beginning with the lesson that 'There is no such thing as a group!')
In the past I have worked with everyone from CEO's of small start-ups, to senior managers at PWC and Deutsche Bank.
University :
- Central Saint Martin's College of Art & Design - Acting [1st Class Honours]
Prizes and Scholarships :
BAFTA Nominee 2015
Winner of the Laurence Olivier Award 2010
Winner of the Hobsons Prize 2010

Perfect! Phenomenal bespoke tutoring!
Ben tutored myself on and off over an 8 month period during the very stressful and tricky process of applying for Drama Schools. From the very start Ben put me at ease, giving me a advice and a realistic approach on how best to advance through the stages and basic guidelines on what to expect. He gained my respect straight away, not only because of his vast experience and knowledge of plays, monologues and the industry, but because he is honest, direct and has a great sense of how far to push you without feeling uncomfortable, especially when exploring new texts and monologues.
Shakespeare can be a daunting task for the untrained eye, but Ben has a way of breaking down text to make it manageable and relatable, but most importantly fun.
Throughout my time with Ben he helped me with advice, guidance and motivation and was a big influence in my success.
The confidence I gained through all my preparation with Ben, allowed me to go into the audition space comfortable and self-assured. Resulting in numerous recalls and 3 fantastic offers from top accredited Drama Schools.
I couldn’t recommend Ben enough as a Drama Tutor, but also as a mentor and a friend.
Subject : Acting
Outcome : A greater level of understanding, mentorship, having fun exploring new ways of bringing the best out of me and achieving 3 fantastic offers from top accredited Drama Schools.View more reviews

Benjamin joined a team of tutors I'd put together to work full-time with a home-schooled student leading up to his GCSEs. Every other tutor I'd worked with for at least 4 years so Ben was the person I knew least well. To say I was happy with his performance would be an understatement. He was punctual, professional and made learning fun. Not only did the student enjoy his lessons but they covered a vast majority of the content very quickly. This kid has had a lot of tutoring in the past and knows the difference between someone who knows how to teach and someone who doesn't. He loved Ben so much that he even considered continuing this subject for A-level.
I'm happy to recommend him and thankful that he helped this student fall in love with a subject he'd not enjoyed before.Ben tutored me in preparation for drama school auditions. I have never had anyone better. He was always polite and professional and very easy going. What comes naturally to Ben is honesty, which in an industry so tough, is critical. He always told me when I was wrong and more importantly, showed me an alternative way of going about the task that might help. He was also never afraid to get involved himself, which, if you are nervous, is fantastic. He has a very calming nature that instantly you feel relaxed, which is important because a relaxed atmosphere is one where you can explore and achieve more than you expected. He was also happy to work around times that suited me and for however long I needed. He was a library for monologues and wonderful speeches and would always pick the right ones for me, ones I enjoyed doing (even Shakespeare!), as well as giving me a challenge I think most importantly his lessons were always fun, I never dreaded a single one!
Ben taught me for a 6 months and was one of the leading reasons that I want to be an actor. Ben set time aside to tutor me and provide me with ideas and a positive feedback. He also directed and guided me and some of my fellow pupils in a production of improbable fiction which was the best and most enjoyable show I have ever done. He manages to make work, no matter how difficult, entertaining and productive. He is excellent at making student self motivated to work.
Benjamin O'Mahony is a highly passionate, vivacious and approachable tutor whose energy and enthusiasm for the subject creates an atmosphere in which you feel comfortable to explore and experiment-something essential in actor training.
His passion and eloquence as a working actor in the industry inspires students, and his highly motivated and friendly approach in teaching creates exciting, stimulating and challenging tutor sessions.View more recommendations
