About Baptiste
I’m a graduate of MIT, but I have spent most of my life in the UK, studying at Westminster School and briefly for one year at Oxford. My background is partly technical (I studied Computer Science at MIT and have had various technical jobs since), and partly non-technical (I studied International Relations at Oxford and have conducted research, written a book, and taught in the Negotiation space more recently, as well as working at McKinsey).
At MIT and in my life, this translates into work in negotiation and conflict resolution (e.g., helping to teach the undergraduate negotiation class, doing research with HKS on negotiations in moments of crisis), public policy (e.g., supporting the Australian government to apply machine learning to education datasets), healthcare (e.g., developing a computer vision algorithm to detect diabetes from iris images), and entrepreneurship (e.g., starting MIT's first entrepreneurship club; supporting the governor of KY to promote entrepreneurship).

My role is to build curiosity and confidence in students through the close mentorship of their own technical projects. It’s always intimidating to get started, but as soon as a student develops the confidence that he/she can learn whatever they want, there is nothing holding them back for the rest of their lives.
The student always chooses the project, based on what they are interested in (we even have fun going around the city while brainstorming ), but they have ranged from mental health apps to Raspberry Pi Hardware projects that have made their way to space – whatever excites the student!
My aim is to develop the student’s intuition, courage, and to teach them problem solving and grit in the process. With that confidence in place, I have seen over 30 students thrive and follow their passions without the need for a tutor. I recently gave a TEDx talk on my ideas behind ideation that I hope to instil in all students.

Baptiste is a hidden gem of a tutor. I began working with him to improve my maths SAT score but he managed to drastically increase my confidence with maths too. He was very patient with me and gave invaluable advice for tackling such a time pressured exam. I had tried quite a few SAT Maths tutors before him and they charged triple the price for a much lower quality of teaching.
I was so pleased with his services I also began learning coding with him and have found him to be incredibly knowledgeable and great at breaking everything down into understandable chunks - no wonder he won a place at MIT!
He is a real role model for students with big dreams - I have already recommended him to all my friends hoping to apply to the US.Writing this reference for Baptiste Bouvier is both incredibly easy and difficult at the same time. To elaborate further, I say easy as I know of no other individual so well suited to the role of a tutor as Baptiste. Yet it is also difficult to do his character, attitude and personality justice within the space of only so many lines.
The fact that Baptiste is frequently chosen for positions of leadership (boat club captain, head of house and monitor to name but a few) showcases many of his finest talents: leadership, organization and thoughtfulness. These qualities carry over to all aspects of his being – his tutoring is no exception and neither are his studies. Baptiste excelled in his A-Levels achieving A*s or equivalents across the board.
Baptiste finds assisting both his peers and younger minds incredibly rewarding – this is demonstrated by his ongoing voluntary commitments to his community. He has taken part in these for as long as I can remember.
Therefore I can unreservedly recommend Baptiste as an unquestionably excellent tutor.
