About Aritra
I am a violin teacher with almost 20 years of experience. My students are of all ages and abilities starting from 6 years old to 81 years old. I graduated with a B.Mus (Hons) degree in Violin Performance, a Diploma in Music Production and also an MA in Ethnomusicology.
Having studied with Julia Clare Wilson, leader of the Farnborough Symphony Orchestra and Susanne Stanzeleit of the Primrose Piano Quartet, both of whom are reputed violinists and regular musicians at the BBC Proms and other professional orchestras in England like the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, I have gained a lot of useful skills and experience over the years in terms of playing various violin concertos and sonatas like the Prokofiev's G Minor Violin Concerto, Edouard Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole or Mozart's D Major Violin Concerto in various orchestras in London and teaching them accordingly to my students. .
My approach towards teaching and violin playing has been greatly influenced by my mentor and teacher Julia Clare Wilson and to a certain extent Susanne Stanzeleit which is expressive and at the same time technically correct and accurate. I have gained a lot of experience with both one-to-one lessons and group lessons covering the exam syllabuses of both ABRSM and Trinity/Guildhall from Grades 1 to 8 and beyond. Many of my students went on to join some of the major youth orchestras like the National Youth Orchestra and other orchestras like the Amati Orchestra and Camden Philharmonic Orchestra to name a few. Some of my advanced students chose to study music including violin performance and composition in some of the top Universities and Conservatoires in the United Kingdom like the Trinity Laban, Leeds College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire.
I structure and tailor my lessons according to the individual's musical abilities, tastes, needs and goals. I am happy to teach violin who are keen to take on the graded exams or to learn the instrument just for enjoyment and fun. Although I place a lot of emphasis on correct playing technique through tailor made technical exercises and scales, I also make sure that my students learn to play the violin with plenty of musicality and flair and ultimately grow to love the piece of music and enjoy the instrument itself. I also put importance on planning and preparation of all my lessons which leads to effective teaching and at the same time make the process more enjoyable and exciting. Along with Western Classical style, I also encourage my students to learn pieces of different other genres like pop and jazz if they choose to learn something else other than Western Classical violin.
Other than the teaching days, the only thing I expect from my students is to dedicate a certain period of time in a day in practising the scales or the pieces of music in the way I have showed them during the lesson. I also expect the parents of my younger students to encourage and supervise their children during self practise playing the scales, the pieces and the specific exercises which I prescribe during the lesson. I also recommend my students to have a Violin Handbook where I would set weekly homework for my students.
My students are based all over London like the Barbican, Baker Street, South Kensington, Finchley, Wembley, Bromley, Ealing, East Ham and Wimbledon to name a few.
If you have any questions in your mind or any special request or requirement, please feel free to message or call me and I will be more than happy to help.

Aritra has a very friendly and patience way of teaching. My 6 year old son started lessons with him with no prior music knowledge or experience, but through hes informative and detailed approach my y year old learnt so much in just a month. He answered every question I've asked with clarity and with an awareness of where I was asking from as a beginner. highly recommend!!
Aritra is a very good teacher and I would highly recommend. He assessed my level and we spoke about what I want to achieve. He has a high emphasis on technique and getting the basics correct which allows me to progress rapidly. He is friendly, explains things clearly and sets homework.
He is passionate about teaching, the violin, and music, while also being highly competent. So long as you put in the practice outside of lessons then you'll get a lot of value from Aritra's lessonsWe were looking for a violin teacher for our 8 year old and found Aritra on a website with great feedback. We met with him and from Day 1 he has been absolutely brilliant. He is very professional, focussed both on short term and longer term lesson objectives and is extremely detailed in his lesson plans and follow up notes. He is very patient, firm but fun and our son adores him. He pushes for high performance in a steady but non pressurising way for our son. We have seen a complete shift in the level of technique, quality of playing and love for music in our son. Aritra is very passionate about is music, has his own studio and performs with international artists. I would very strongly recommend him as a violin teach for any age.
I am so pleased to have found Aritra to be my daughter's (age 10) violin tutor. We were immediately impressed with his teaching style and structured approach. He is a highly dedicated and committed tutor, resulting in my daughter achieving two distinctions (abrsm grade 3 and grade 4) within this year and now has jumped to learning grade 6 violin. He is patient and articulates well making it is easy for my daughter to understand.
As someone who has started to learn at the age of 23, I thought I might struggle more than kids who learn from a young age, but Aritra has really taken the time to explain the basics. He also ensures that when you practice and get things wrong, that he goes back and helps you correct it. This way I have been able to prevent forming bad habits at an early stage and I'm really happy with my progress with Aritra. I look forward to many more lessons with him in the future and gaining from his experience as a violinist and teacher.
Within 5 years Aritra took my daughter from an average grade 2 player to a obtain a distinction at grade 8 at the age of 12. Always polite, reliable and flexible, he showed an genuine interest in her progress and that has allowed her to succeed and also nurture a genuine love of music.
Since the first connection with Aritra, I have been impressed with the energy he brings to the subject. He has been able to encourage and build enthusiasm in my children (11 and 8). They are encouraged and yet kept in good discipline to further their learning. The level of tuition is high and systematic. He is flexible in his timings to meet an accommodating time.
