About Araxie

Art Tutor: Royal College of Art Graduate (Distinction)

I am a practising Fine Artist, with 15 years experiance, who exhibits nationally and internationally, most recently in Paris. Helping others is important to me so I also teach weekly at Kite Art Studios in West London and bi-termly at a primary school as a visiting Art's specialist. I am able to tutor privately on location or at my large personal studio space in Maida Vale/St John's Wood.

I feel that I have the wealth of knowledge, experience, skill and artistic ability to be able to inspire and educate students. I believe I have the constitution as a teacher to generate an unbounded excitement, dedication and confidence to the subject from students. I place belief in every student’s ability to make work that surprises, questions and engages and I encourage that they push themselves outside the realms of what feels comfortable and safe. I would always encourage a continual evolvement and learning through thinking, making and reflecting. I also hold a very sympathetic and understanding view to the trials, tribulations and sometimes emotional and frustrating journey art can take you on at times. I have knowledge and experience in helping students in bringing themselves out of creative ruts and into a more productive space. Through my own practice I have learnt practical ways to help achieve this. I believe an astute understanding to an individual student’s needs and attributes is paramount to a being positive teacher in fine art.
I believe that in the teaching of Arts it is most effective that students learn the fundamentals of technique in conjunction with developing a vision. It is important to continually enrich technique, style and the properties of materials in order that they may become confident and autonomous enough to challenge and move outside the rules. The Art classroom should be a secure environment for directed learning that can be spiked with dynamic and spontaneous methods.

I believe fully that it is vital to encourage pupils not to be afraid of making mistakes in order to make individual journeys of artistic discovery with exploration and experimentation of new materials and ideas.

Wel prepared, knowledgeable, warm, enthusiastic

Written by Lucy S
Araxie did an art session with my daughter aged 10 and myself. She came well prepared with teaching materials but also adapted the lesson to fit her audience. She gave much energy to the session and clearly cared that her students were learning.
