About Antoniu

I am convinced that nobody has a limit in terms of understanding something. Often however, students are approaching such problems in a way that isn’t necessarily fitting for them.
In my opinion, every person has his own way of understanding something, but teachers only explain a topic in a way that benefits “most” and they can understand and imagine. Often students benefit greatly from an alternative explanation that is customized only for them.
My father, who was a university professor, taught me how to explain anything to anyone and I applied this knowledge to various students in secondary education, as a volunteer teacher in Nepal as well as a teaching assistant in London and in everyday life.
I can work with any type of student, but I prefer working with students who think that don’t perform quite as well as they would like to in a subject. I am primarily occupied with making sure that the student understands the fundamental principles and try to build on that. This way, I believe, it is possible for students to make meaningful progress and eventually to be able to learn independently while getting top-marks.

------------------------------------- A bit about myself --------------------------------------

I am currently a 4th year chemical engineering student at Imperial College London. I specialise in thermodynamics and optimization methods and wish to stay in academia and one day become a professor at one of the world’s best universities.
My hobbies are playing basketball, football, hanging out with friends and watching movies and documentaries.

--------------------------------- A bit more about myself ----------------------------------

I was born in Bucharest, Romania but since my father was a professor, my family moved from city to city in the first six years of my life. Finally, we settled down in Munich where I went to a European School which is a semi-private school founded by European institutions. Although I was interested in European history, politics and languages, I was far more excited by the natural sciences and mathematics.
In my second last year of school, my best friend had difficulties to get good marks in mathematics and his mother was worried that he might not be able to improve his marks on his own. After she tried some tutors, she asked me if I wanted to try tutoring him and I did it. He managed to improve his marks so fast (from 45% to 75% in two months) that other friends also asked me to tutor them, which I really enjoyed.
I also played different sports including basketball, football, swimming and judo but I enjoyed basketball most. I managed to be the captain of my team and even played some games in the German national basketball youth league which taught me a lot about discipline, leadership and management.
I then started to study chemical engineering at Imperial College London (I am currently in my final year of my master). It is a very demanding course, but I am still trying to do some teaching, play basketball every now and then and hang out with friends.

University :
- Imperial College London - BEng Chemical Engineering [Upper second class]
