About Anna
I am currently at King's College London pursuing my PhD in Artificial Intelligence having just completed my BSc Mathematics and Computer Science (also at KCL) for which I attained a first class honours.
Originally from the U.S., I graduated from an American high school (state school). I am familiar with American style tests and have achieved a perfect score on the maths portion of the SAT reasoning test twice. I took six AP (advanced placement) courses and scored 4's and 5's on all of them. Having always loved maths, I was able to graduate after only three years (as opposed to the standard four years); I did this by teaching myself a whole year of maths during one summer. For this, I was awarded the Yale Book Award.
Upon graduating, I enrolled in maths and physics university courses at schools including Harvard's extension school. During this year I also worked a part-time job.
I am very passionate about maths and have been helping my siblings with their maths homework for years, as well as tutoring fellow classmates when I was in high school in America. I can tutor any level of maths up to and including A-level as well as help with SAT test prep for those who are looking to the U.S. for university.
Regarding my approach to tutoring, I believe maths should be approachable first and foremost. In my experience, students get put off by complicated terminology, symbols, etc. and resign themselves to the idea that they are not a 'maths person.' Personally, I think everyone can be a maths person, and success in maths depends on the way the material is taught. Therefore, I try to listen to my students specific reservations and confusion about the material and then teach in a way that resonates with him/her. Tailoring the material to individual students' needs is something I take very seriously.
