Re: Reference Request for Ms Anna Cousins
Anna Cousins attained qualified teacher status on 6 July 2012. She joined the staff of St Paul’s Academy as a drama teacher in September 2012. She successfully completed the statutory Induction period (3 terms).
Anna effectively taught across the age range 11 – 16 and ability range up to and including GCSE. She was committed to ensuring the students in her care achieved and made progress. She had an excellent presence in the classroom and she managed the behaviour of students well.
The lessons I observed her in were thoroughly planned with interesting and innovative approaches in engaging the students with their learning.
In addition to being a drama teacher, Anna was a Form Tutor. She carried out her pastoral duties professionally, efficiently and with a great deal of care for the students.
Anna was a helpful and supportive colleague, both in the department, the Learning Zone and the whole school, she was respected and liked by all. She generously gave of her time to extracurricular activities in order to enrich the lives of our students.
Anna at all times was respectful and professional in her dealings with students, colleagues and parents alike.
Her communication skills were excellent.
I am not aware of any reasons why Anna should not work with young people. I can highly recommend her knowing she will be a great asset to any establishment she joins.

As the Head of Academics, Nursery to Grade 9 at Lertlah School Kaset-Nawamin, I have had the privilege of acting as academic supervisor to Ms. Anna Cousins
As a Grades 1-3 English Language Arts, Phonics teacher, Anna consistently planned and delivered lessons that engaged her students, reflects her knowledge of the various levels and types of learners, and displays her passion for education.
Anna’s relationship with students has always been positive and her commitment to their emotional and academic well-being is evident in the interactions she has with them in the classroom and within the school. Her classroom management and teaching techniques are such that students understand expectations, are on task and maximized learning opportunities are common. She has shown a great understanding of the student, developing solutions to the difficulties they face, both academic and behavioural. She approaches behavioural discipline positively, preserving student dignity in the process. Students in Anna’s class are therefore aware that positive interactions are the expectation and that she is willing to work with them upon developing in that regard.
Anna’s commitment to developing upon her knowledge of all aspects of educational philosophy and pedagogy has been evident through conversations I have had with her personally, as well as the ways in which she has participated in the various professional development and professional learning community opportunities we have had at Lertlah.
I would recommend Ms. Cousins to any professional learning community hoping to improve their staff.
