About Anna
I have two years of part-time tutoring experience, mainly in History and English for GCSE and A-Level, and provide a yearly workshop in Oxbridge and UCAS guidance to my previous state secondary school in Ealing. I also have experience tutoring for entrance exams (i.e. the history section of Eton's Kings Scholarship, Cambridge prep, and admission interviews).
I also volunteered as a Christ's College Representative, the outreach programme at my Cambridge college which aims to make the University more accessible to state school students via tours, talks, and supervision classes run by undergraduates such as myself. Due to this I am also fully DBS checked.
For the last two summers I have volunteered in China on language-based programmes. In my first year of University, I volunteered as an English Language Teacher for a Cambridge based charity, OSCA, for a period of two months in Beijing. As part of a team of six, I was responsible for the running of the camps and teaching English to 120 Chinese children aged 10-16.

I am a recent History graduate from the University of Cambridge, having graduated in June 2019 with a high 2:1. In my final year I specialised in Modern European History but hold a strong knowledge of other periods across different continents due to the breath and intensity of the Cambridge syllabus.
My main focus is for students currently sitting their GCSE and A Levels, as well as those looking for help with both school and university admissions tests and interviews. What has proved useful with previous tutees and myself at Cambridge is a focus on how best to write history, aiming to think beyond clever sound bites and flowery language that so often accompanies humanities, and instead to place emphasis on clarity and boldness in our writing. It is much more than memorized dates thrown onto a page, the dates can come later. It took me three years at Cambridge to master a solid introduction and conclusion but this is the key to a strong and coherent essay, with some interesting examples found and thrown in the mix!
I believe that getting to the core of history and developing students' historical ability is best served by pushing beyond the boundaries of school textbooks and the 'classics' of historiographical literature and periods. Instead, students should be encouraged to search for more authentic and fascinating primary sources and think of the diversity and growth of current historical opinion over recent years. I will encourage students to bring their own primary sources to my lessons and to begin with a discussion around each as a means of launching us into the period and topic as a whole. I found this particular example useful at University, with Cambridge supervisors doing the same for our weekly sessions - with us as a pair starting the lesson by listening to the French national anthem, watching a short clip from 'The Death of Stalin', and sending postcards to our families (this one is the most interesting - ask me why!). The exercise works well in your free trial lesson with me, as it always me to get a grasp of the students knowledge and creativity when faced with a source that at first appears completely random!

Anna worked with my daughter to help her prepare for her 11+ exams, and successfully gain a place at Lady Eleanor Holles School. Anna drastically helped to improve my daughter’s confidence with English and comprehension skills (and helped foster a love for English and reading.) Huge thank you Anna!
Anna is a fabulous tutor with a great passion for English and History.
She worked with my son to improve his English in preparation for the 11+ and results were excellent. His previous tutor had somewhat killed his confidence but Anna turned it around and dramatically enhanced his self belief.
As smart as you would expect from a Cambridge graduate. Full of fun and enthusiasm to the point where my son actually looked forward to lessons.
Highly recommended.I have overseen Anna design and deliver fun and thoughtful lesson plans for her students. She is constantly looking for ways to improve her students learning, and her engaging and warm personaility allows her to achieve this effectively. I strongly recommened Anna as a teacher and a tutor.
I observed Anna plan and deliver a fantastic set of English language lessons for high school students in Beijing. She has an ideal personality for education alongside strong technical abilities, allowing her to create the perfect environment for maximising each student's learning.
I was Anna’s Director of Studies in Part II of her degree in History at Christ’s College in the University of Cambridge. Anna is a mature, personable, and incisive student who has performed well on a very demanding course in the midst of intense competition. She received a deserved First class mark for her Part I Long Essay and a creditable Second Class, Division 1 result overall in Part I of her degree (2018). Anna graduated with a high Second Class, Division 1 result in 2019. Anna has demonstrated her interest in teaching by holding a British Council / Generation UK role in China in 2019, and I am confident that she would serve as an excellent Tutor to students of all ages. She is an articulate, confident, and engaging speaker, who has proved herself to be adept and incisive as a student in Cambridge and elsewhere. I recommend her to you with the greatest enthusiasm
