Hello

I am an Economics Tutor and qualified teacher, who graduated from Oxford University where I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

I have taught A-Level and IB Economics, A Level Politics and A Level Business Studies since 2003. I have been the Head of Economics and Politics at 2 leading independent schools for 8 years. I have been teaching online since 2013.

I have taught the whole syllabus for all 3 of my subjects and focus a lot on improving my pupils' exam technique. I have marked exam papers for the EDEXCEL board. I explain complex economic ideas in simple terms and cut through jargon to ensure that the subject is not made overly complicated. I try to make my classes interesting and relevant by relating them to real world events. This is so that my pupils develop their own interest in the subject. I have written my own course notes and can make these available to my tutees.

My lessons are very interactive and my students are required to participate throughout the lessons to improve their ability to explain and test their thinking and to improve the quality of their exam answers. The focus of my lessons is to help improve my students´ grades as quickly as possible by training them to follow very specific exam techniques. My focus is very much on helping my students to improve their exam grades.

For Economics I have experience in teaching the EDEXCEL, OCR, Eduquas (formerly the Welsh Board) and AQA syllabuses both at AS-Level and A-Level.

I also teach Politics, Law, Business Studies and Maths. I can also provide help with UCAS form personal statements and preparation for university (Oxbridge) interviews.

I teach in London and online. Please do contact me if you would like my help or if you want more information.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have been a tutor and teacher of Economics, Business Studies and Politics since I graduated in 2003.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I mainly teach Economics, but I also teach Business Studies and Politics mostly at A Level but I also teach IB Economics. I teach all topics on these courses and actually, I love all elements of the syllabuses. In Economics my favourite topics are Macroeconomic policies and also game theory and market structure diagrams.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I really appreciated all of my teachers but my favourite teacher was my year 8 Maths teacher Mr Gajdus. He was just simply brilliant at clearly explaining concepts and he was a genius and I wanted to be like him. My parents are my greatest role models.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

For my subjects, I believe that a good tutor has the ability to enable and train their students to themselves good at explaining the content of their subject in a clear and detailed way. A good tutor should be able to identify what their students need to do to raise their performance and be able to show them step-by-step how to do this.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

My Maths teacher Mr Gajdus told me that he was teaching us (my whole class) general approaches that can be used to answer any questions that are thrown at us. I am now trying to do the same but in my subjects.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

When a student does not revise content or practice exam techniques taught to them in between lessons their progress slows down. It is vital for a student to reinforce what they are taught between each tuition session.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I love to teach and see my student steadily improve in their subjects.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I believe that I can explain my subjects to my students in simple terms and show them step-by-step how to explain their own understanding of their subjects clearly and in detail. I also believe that I share step-by-step guides with my students on how to improve their exam technique and we apply these steps in our lessons and over time my students´ grades improve as a result.
