About Amiee
*As of February 2020 I will have two spaces for new students available through this site - please message me if you would like to discuss*
I'm a British Oxford graduate based in SW1 with a passion for education.
I tutor specifically for entrance exams, in London and for schools across the UK. I left Investment Banking to work on an educational admissions based project, whilst tutoring admissions at 8+, 13+ and 11+. I have over 10 years of experience working with children of all ages, through numerous international agencies as well as privately, and have previously undertaken homeschooling roles both in London and abroad, with a focus on 11+ and 13+ preparation.
I am results driven and, since I spend my day working on a schools based education and admissions business, I know the selective senior school landscape very well. I help clients with applications, examinations, and interviews. I also have excellent experience with scholarship applications, with two of my candidates lately obtaining academic scholarships to Eton and Sevenoaks (at 13+ and 16+ respectively, the former also obtained a music scholarship).
At 11+ I cover: Maths, Verbal, Non Verbal, English and Interview, & CEM pre-test preparation.
At 13+ I cover: Maths, Sciences, History, Geography, RS, English, at both CE and scholarship standard.
I tailor the program to the particular schools being aimed for, and have access to a large number if resources (papers, marks schemes) that will save parents time! I am able to recommend appropriate resources and create schedules in order to help manage deadlines. I communicate clearly with the parent and set relevant and targeted homework when appropriate.
I strongly believe that successful admissions and assessments can be attributed in part to a candidate's confidence and awareness, and so where appropriate I love to bring elements of current affairs and general knowledge to my lessons. I will often base a comprehension exercise around newspaper opinion columns, or encourage a child to debate upon a topic studied in humanities subjects. I am relaxed and chatty, and try to encourage children to discuss their possible approaches to each question or issue.
I also tutor specific GCSEs:
- Geography (all syllabus options)
- History (some syllabus options - 20th century)
- Sciences (all syllabus options)
***Fully DBS checked***
***Slots on the system are only guidance - do message me if you don't see one that suits and I will rearrange and create one***
***Do ask this site for my full CV. If I am booked for longer slots I am happy to negotiate a lower price, and I have a separate day and week rate which depends upon the season. Please message me before you book, as sometimes I will need to allow for the tutor session before being the other side of London! When booking please include as much info about your child as possible, so I can best prepare. I sometimes have capacity to homeschool, please message me with this in the title if this is something you are interested in. I am also happy to tutor via skype***
***I am always happy to have an initial discussion over the phone for smallest TF charge to work out whether we should proceed; please let me know if this is something you would like***
I look forward to hearing from you.

We approached Amy late in the 11+ process to guide our daughter as it was a delayed decision from our side to apply to a broader set of leading senior schools. In this short period of time, Amy was extremely dedicated, motivated and took the challenge with us - she impressed with her structured approach and direction towards preparatory materials. My daughter found Amy to be supportive and approachable, someone who encouraged her with a good balance of challenge / independent thinking and effective explanation. Amy is a highly intelligent, well-rounded and knowledgeable tutor, who knows the top London schools (e.g. SPGS, North London, City) well and can offer perspectives on each.
Amy tutored my twin 9 year old boys and 5 year old daughter for a year. She was excellent. Thanks to her, the boys made remarkable progress in all aspects of their school work and behaviour. She taught them all the core academic subjects and help them gain intellectual confidence and curiosity. But she went beyond academics. She also focused on their manners and general behaviour and deportment. With my daughter, she was very gentle and creative, and managed to find ways to engage her, depite her age.
Amy was exceedingly helpful in aiding me while I made my personal statement. She really made me think about how I felt about my subject and encouraged me to go deeper than what I learned at A level through book and article recommendations. The final outcome was far superior to anything I could have done by myself and has hopefully greatly strengthened my application.
Amy taught me piano for 3 years and was the most fantastic teacher. She's a very accomplished performer herself, which enables her to teach pianists of a very high level (although I did not fall into that bracket!).
I had previously played up to grade 5 but hadn't played for a few years, and Amy was taught with remarkable enthusiasm and patience to rekindle my love for the piano. She worked with me towards my grade 6 and 7 exams, which I passed quite comfortably with her help.
I'd highly recommend her, she's a lovely girl and an excellent teacher.
GabyAmy has worked for me the past four months tutoring my two children both English and science at GCSE level. She is a diligent worker and has proven a massive success with my children. Her knowledge in these areas is exceptional and has a fun personality enabling her to be a great tutor to my children. Her abilities as a tutor have been highlighted particularly to me by the impressive rise in my children’s results compared to last year and their place at the top of their class.
I would highly recommend her to anyone, she is a highly competent woman.
Regards
LivAmy is outstanding at understanding the child and helping them achieve their goals.
We were lucky to find Amy to help with the children, given she is a very bright and talented young lady, but also warm, charming, kind and patient (!). Her duties involved helping with homework, working towards the 8+ exams, and music practice for beginners (violin and piano).
Amy instilled confidence, and working with her was never a chore for the children. She encouraged an early love of music, which manifested itself in my son becoming Leader of the Orchestra at his prep school. The 8+ was also a success, given offers were achieved from all schools where exams were sat. All in all, I recommend her highly.Amy's success lies in the fact that she has a very kind and encouraging approach to teaching, accompanied with a good knowledge of the subject. Further, the genuine care she has for her students is picked up those she teaches, making her a very accomplished teacher.
Brilliant tutor! Articulated, focused and very professional. She has managed to prepare our son for the Geography CE within 3 weeks. The lessons have been very informative, challenging and interactive. Definitely recommended to achieve the top result.
