About Amir

Head of A-Levels, Head of Further Maths, Qualified Teacher

I was the Head of A-Levels and Head of Further Maths at Cambridge Education Group. I am a highly qualified maths teacher with many years of experience. I have taught maths and further maths across all age groups and abilities (KS1, KS2, KS3, GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, University Foundation Programme and Undergraduate). I am one of a handful of teachers in the country to have taught all the A-Level maths and further maths modules both pure and applied (Edexcel, OCR, MEI, AQA and CIE). I have also prepared many students for the 11+, STEP, AEA, MAT, UKMT and BMO. I am currently conducting research with the University of Cambridge in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

In addition to my research I tutor a handful of students each year in London. I enjoy tutoring as it gives me the opportunity to help students to achieve top grades and enjoy the subject as much as I do, no matter their starting point. I have an outstanding track record. My students regularly secure places at the best universities in the country, including Oxford and Cambridge. I have also helped younger students secure places/scholarships at the best schools in the country, including Dulwich and Eton.

I have a Masters in Mathematics (MMath) and a PGCE specialising in maths. I bring an exceptionally high standard of teaching to my lessons. I have officially received “outstanding” rating (the highest possible) for 5 consecutive years for my teaching from Cambridge Education Group. I have also earned numerous awards in recognition of my teaching and maths ability over the years, including the prestigious title of scholar at the “Institute of Mathematics and its Applications”.

I am an associate member of: London Mathematical Society, Royal Statistical Society, Member of Mathematics in Education and Industry, The Mathematical Association, National STEM Centre.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience teaching maths and further maths across all age groups. I have taught students with varying starting points and needs. From helping students prepare for competition maths (UKMT and BMO), university entrance papers (STEP, AEA, MAT and GRE) and school entrance papers (11+), to helping students with English as a second language and those with significant gaps in their education. Here is a list of schools which my former students now attend: Dulwich College, Highgate School, City of London School for Boys, Forest school, Northbridge House School, Eton College as well as several schools from the North London Independent Girls’ Schools’ Consortium.

As the Head of A-Levels at Cambridge Education Group I played a key role in preparing students for university applications, which included help with UCAS application and mock interviews. I know what is required to get offers and secure places at the best universities and have been very successful in this capacity. Here is a list of universities which my former students attend: University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Hong Kong, Imperial College London, LSE, UCL, Durham University, University of Warwick, King's College London and University of Edinburgh.

Where face-to-face tuition is not feasible, my online sessions are the best in the industry. I have invested in the latest technology to ensure students will benefit from outstanding teaching with no compromise during my online lessons. Any potential student interested in online tuition will be offered a free 30-minute Skype call, to test the connection and for the student to get a taster of the online sessions. In exceptional circumstances, I am open to international travel.

Tutoring Approach

My experience and research have led me to conclude that all students have the potential to become outstanding mathematicians. My job as a tutor is to honour this claim and help students fall in love with the subject as well.

Maths is, above all, the subject where one thing follows from another, so I start by making sure that students are comfortable with the foundations of maths. This removes significant barriers to learning. Then I build on this foundation by helping students truly understand maths, knowing not only what to do but why. As a subject specialist, this is second nature for me as I have both the breadth and depth of knowledge needed to help students to this end. Finally, I make sure students can transmit their knowledge during examination. With prior experience as an exam writer and an exam marker I know exactly what it takes to succeed.

Having taught nearly a thousand students over the course of my teaching career I appreciate that no two students are the same, so my sessions are tailored to each student. This is where being a subject specialist is crucial as one needs to know a variety of different methods to tackle a given question or explain a given concept. Furthermore, as someone who is actively involved in research I am also able to make maths relevant to my students with real life applications.

For all students, I create a “tutoring plan” which will outline the objectives for our tutoring sessions, a schedule for what we will cover and by when, and any areas that need developing. Furthermore, for those students who commit to frequent tutoring sessions I create a “working folder” that is tailored to their needs. This folder will contain resources and notes from each tutoring session.

Reference for Amir

Written by Laura B
Amir tutored our daughter for the North London Independent Girls’ Schools Consortium entrance exams.

As a professional maths teacher / experienced classroom teacher, Amir has both a structured and enthusiastic approach to teaching. Firstly, Amir structured the pre-exam period by thoroughly researching the entrance exams (e.g. school guidelines, past exam papers etc) and developed a tutoring plan for the four month period that focused on building an understanding of the fundamentals and then advancing to the more complex maths problems. Secondly, as a professional maths teacher, it is clear that Amir has a real passion for teaching maths and his enthusiasm for the subject is apparent in his teaching style. This enthusiasm for maths really helped to keep our daughter engaged throughout the four month period and she always enjoyed her sessions with Amir. In writing this reference, I asked our daughter how she would describe Amir’s tutoring and she said ‘he makes maths fun.’

In sum, we believe that Amir’s tutoring not only prepared our daughter for her entrance exams, but also built her maths confidence which will be of enormous value in the coming years. We would, therefore, highly recommend Amir as a tutor.

Amir S tutoring for 10 year old

Written by John H
Amir has been tutoring my 10 year old son for the last 5 weeks. As a result of changing schools my son had missed some key maths concepts that were inhibiting his progression in his new curriculum and undermining his confidence in the subject. Amir was quick to identify the areas needing attention and was able to steer him in the right direction. My son has since been steadily gaining confidence and is actually enjoying doing his maths homework now !
Amir has been great at explaining basic concepts and instilling confidence in our son.

Amir is a superb teacher. He has all the skills necessary to help the weakest and the strongest students to succeed in Maths. He also has a caring nature and as a pastoral teacher he has shown that he has an excellent rapport with his students that encourages the very best from them. His approach is enthusiastic and this is infectious - his students love attending his lessons because of the excellent learning environment he is able to create for them.
Amir's Maths results are excellent for all his classes and his students are confident that they will succeed if they have been taught by Amir.

Amir Saei is both, an A-level tutor for Maths and Further Maths, and a Programme Director leading the pastoral team of Personal (form) Tutors for the A2 year group. He is a very strong teacher and very good communicator, delivering excellent lessons. His subject knowledge is outstanding and he is constantly looking for ways to learn and improve not only his knowledge but how to deliver it effectively. He plans lessons well and constantly assess students' learning. Amir Saei's students report learning well in his lessons and liking his approach and methods of teaching. He is very good in both one to one or group (classroom) settings. He plans and designs his own resources and tests.
He is also an approachable teacher who has a strong supportive but professional relationship with his students. He is aware of safeguarding regulations in regards to education. Amir Saei goes beyond his remit in regards to supporting both his students, team, colleagues, and senior leaders. He enjoys having different responsibilities and he manages them well, striving to maintain a balance between all responsibilities and deadlines. He is a asset to the teams he belongs to.
Amir Saei is an outstanding teacher and professional. I can strongly recommend him as a tutor.

An excellent tutor

Written by Alice B
Amir was an excellent tutor who helped me to improve my final A level result by two grades. He also helped me with my application to Durham University where I am now studying maths and philosophy. We went through the subject material in a lot of depth and beyond the syllabus- I would highly recommend Amir as a tutor.
My A-level further maths result was an A, an improvement on my original result of a C

Excellent Tutor

Written by Sonya M
Amir was great at coaching for further maths - very patient and also very interested in making sure that our child really understood the concepts. He loves the subject and teaches to help exam outcomes but also to inspire a lovel of learning and of maths - and this comes across during the sessions. He was also a great help in writing a personal statement.
Further Maths
Increased by 2 grades and a successful university application
