About Ami

Violin, Voice and Piano lessons from an experienced Musician

Are you interested in learning Violin, Piano, Contemporary Singing or Music Theory? How about expanding your horizons and incorporating some other genres into your style? Or maybe you’ve always found that complex harmony a bit frustrating?
Whatever your reason to find a teacher, be you a beginner or approaching a daunting degree course, I can help you to fulfil your potential. I am a very experienced private tutor, and I am becoming known for my unique experience in Jazz, Classical, and World Music styles.
I hold a Bachelors Degree in Composition and Classical Violin from Birmigham Conservaoire as well as a Masters Degree in Jazz from Guildhall School of Music. I have a wealth of experience performing, and I have taken part in many projects spanning multiple genres. Such examples are singing with Big Bands, playing first Violin in prestigious Orchestras, and performing to a 20,000+ crowd with a spontaneous Folk Ensemble. I have performed at many festivals and venues such as Shambala Festival, Towersey Festival, Fairport's Cropedy Convention, Warwick Folk Festival, Town Hall Birmingham, Symphony Hall Birmingham and the Royal Albert Hall. I have had band tours within the UK, Italy, Norway and Bulgaria.
I am very proficient in all areas of Violin, Contemporary Singing,Composition and Music Theory. I am happy to teach these subjects in any detail, and I believe in tailoring the subjects to best suit the student. I do like to encourage my students to set themselves apart from the rest, by looking at other styles of Music, perhaps even incorporating some Bulgarian Vocal techniques into their singing or playing, for example.
I love teaching, and I look forward to every lesson with every student!

Written by Emilie Parry W
Ami has been incredibly patient, helpful, and invaluable in my music theory tutoring. She has helped me learn an incredible amount and isn't afraid to go over things until you understand them fully. She takes a lot of time helping you and if thouroughly reccomend her as a music theory tutor. She has helped me incredibly.

Jazz singing and arrangement

Written by Bryony P
I asked Ami to help me with learning and approaching jazz music and she went above and beyond and also taught me a great deal about arrangement and singing close harmonies. She is very generous with her time and knowledge and I would highly recommend her as a music teacher-born vocally and academically.
A greatly helpful series of sessions which continue to inform my singing and enjoyment of jazz singing/harmony.
