About Amélie

Bonjour!

I am Amelie, a professional French native teacher, with a methodology method that has proved its worth many times. Not only my method and my academic background will help you thrive in your French learning journey, but my passion and enthusiasm for my language will motivate you to pursue your efforts along the way.

I have been living in the UK for the past seven years which gave me a robust understanding of both French and British cultures and educational systems.

Since I have started this fantastic tutoring journey, I have taught French to students with a great variety of backgrounds – Native speakers preparing for their French baccalaureate (French A-levels), British teenagers preparing for their GCSE, children who wanted to learn a new language, expat adults living in France, English-speaking adults who wanted to improve their resume. My "raison d'être" is to support my students and help them to achieve their goals, with confidence and enthusiasm.

Alors… Do you want to prepare for your French exam? Or a job interview? Are you planning a trip to a French-speaking country? Do you need to learn specialized French for work? Do you want to learn a new language because it makes you happy? Do you need more conversational time to gain confidence? Book your first lesson with me today! French has never been so easy.

MY PERSONAL APPROACH AND LEARNING METHOD

Whether you want to progress quickly, learn specialized French for work, pass your French exams (all levels), enroll your child in a fun and excellent French course or just practice French conversation, I am the teacher you need!

Each individual deserves to be treated as such, that is why my teaching method is tailor-made as per your needs. My teaching methodology is personalized to your level, your requirements, and your very own personality. This is how I have always managed to get excellent results with my students.

My aim is to make you gain confidence while improving your knowledge to be able to take part in a conversation in French and to feel comfortable whatever your level stands at.

I will always do my best to find a perfect balance between theory and its application in a creative and stimulating way to not only keep you engaged but also to make you get excellent results.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM YOUR LESSONS

I plan your lessons based on your needs and around your existing (or non-existing) knowledge of French to take you to the next level. One lesson typically lasts one hour but this is something that we should discuss beforehand to meet your requirements.

The courses you will attend are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1 to C2) to provide a guideline for your learning and will revolve around four major axes: 1) reading 2) speaking 3) writing 4) listening.

I am providing the learning materials and I will give you homework to learn and practice in-between lessons. All these resources and even more would be accessible in your own online personal space where we can communicate until your next lesson if you need to.

One of the best study tools I prevail is conversation and engaging content - activities based on texts, videos, podcasts, and TV shows. Even when we will have to talk grammar or tricky conjugation, I will make it digestible and even funny. However, I will never give up on quality and I think that accuracy is key to pushing you to go an extra mile in your learning journey.

MY QUALIFICATIONS

- Baccalauréat with honors with French/English as specialties
- 2 years in classe préparatoire - The French classes préparatoires are an intensive two-year post-baccalauréat course designed to prepare the best students for entry into the Grandes Écoles. It is the equivalent of an excellence intensive foundation degree
- Master (La Sorbonne, Paris) in Literature, Research, Translation, and university teaching under the supervision of Dr. Sarah Pickard.

Before I recognized that teaching was my vocation, I joined the private sector in the property management industry for four years and this high-level experience has definitely brought more depth to my academic background and allowed me to understand completely the needs of my professional students.

WHO ARE MY LESSONS FOR? (hint: YOU!)

- All ages and levels from complete beginners to advanced learners.
- Individuals preparing for DELF, DALF, GCSE, A-levels along with IB and Baccalaureate according to the French curriculum.
- Professionals willing to learn French to enhance their resume or to thrive in the French job market.
- Complete beginners or people who learned French a long time ago at school and who would love to learn our beautiful language.

Find out more about Amélie

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I am a native French speaker, so I grew up speaking the language fluently. However, I am also very lucky because I had a myriad of wonderful French teachers at school who inspired me to learn more about the language and its culture. They made learning French fun and engaging, and they encouraged me to use the language in creative ways.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical, or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I would choose Olympe de Gouges as an emblematic representative of French culture. She was a playwright, journalist, and political activist who fought for women's rights during the French Revolution. She was a pioneer in the feminist movement, and her work continues to inspire people today, especially her 'Declaration des droits de la Femme et de la Citoyenne'. She was a free thinker and she was guillotined, and there's nothing more French than that!
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I love the French expression "pierre qui roule n'amasse pas mousse." It literally means "a rolling stone gathers no moss," but it can be used figuratively to mean that someone who is always on the go does not have time to accumulate wealth or possessions. I like this expression because it reminds me that it is important to enjoy the journey, not just the destination.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking French is important to me because it is my native language and my cultural heritage. I am proud to be French and a native French speaker, and I love the opportunity to share my language and culture with others. Moreover, speaking French gives me the opportunity to learn more about other French-speaking societies and cultures, such as those in French-speaking Canada, North Africa, and other European countries. This is an incredible opportunity. I also believe that speaking multiple languages is a valuable skill in today's globalized world, as it allows us to communicate with people from all over the world and learn about different cultures.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty in learning French is the pronunciation. French has many unique sounds that can be difficult for native speakers of other languages to master. However, there are a number of things that can help learners improve their pronunciation, such as listening to native speakers, practicing speaking with a tutor or language partner, and using online resources. I can't deny that the fact that every rule has an exception in French can be a bit daunting but that also makes it fun! Yes, yes, I promise it does!
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I have always been a good student, but I was particularly good at learning languages. I remember in primary school, I always got 20/20 on my poetry recitation exams. My mom was so proud of me, and she still talks about it to this day. I also loved playing the main part in drama class. I could learn the text by heart very easily, even when it was in Old French.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I spent some time in French-speaking Canada, North Africa, and Belgium, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there is much more to French than the French spoken in France. I am fascinated by the way other cultures use the language, and this exposure to the world has changed my perception of the language forever.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

I am a Superprof in language because I am passionate about teaching and I have a deep understanding of the French language and culture. I am also patient, supportive, and encouraging. I believe that everyone can learn French, and I am committed to helping my students succeed. Finally, I believe that learning should be fun, and I use my personality to make my lessons engaging and enjoyable for all of my students.
