Hi! I'm Amelia and I have years of experience tutoring.
I'm a first year Modern Languages student at Oxford and I'm excited to teach a wide range of subjects, having tutored and worked in schools for several years now. I didn't always pick up subjects like Maths and Sciences so quickly at a higher level, but I found any extra tuition and time with teachers invaluable so I feel I really understand the importance of having an engaged and clear tutor.
This past year, I've worked at a summer camp and at a learning centre abroad for children struggling in their schoolwork, but equally I've enjoyed professionally tutoring older children back home in subjects such as French and Maths and through volunteering for SE1 United. I feel comfortable working with all ages and abilities and different group sizes as well, as I led a weekly drama club at a local primary school for a year.
One of my favourite parts of teaching is building a connection between the student and the teacher and having regular and meaningful contact. I know that some of the most inspirational and important people in my life have been my teachers.
I specialise in literature and languages, but for seven months on my gap year I worked full-time at The Adam Smith Institute, a think tank, so I feel very much prepared to teach subjects within politics, economics and current affairs to a high level. I've kept up my maths from A-level and my GCSE science, and having prepared for and done many entrance exams for schools and the ACTs for US universities, I am confident to teach those as well.
In my spare time, I play the violin and finished my grade eight a few years ago so I play just for enjoyment now. When I was younger, I really struggled with my music lessons for years until I found the right teacher, so again I hope I have gained a lot of experience about patience and encouragement in my own teaching from that.
If you have any questions I'd love to hear from you so please do get in touch with me! I also have a small selection of GCSE and A-level books in Maths, Science, English and other subjects I'd be very happy to bring to the lessons.
