About Allison
I am a 26-year-old Belgian-Irish student in my second of a PhD at Imperial College London in immunology and virology. My main research focus is studying the pathology behind the neurological diseases associated with Human T Cell Leukaemia Virus-1 infection. However since the COVID-19 pandemic, I have also been involved with several clinical trials for hospitalised COVID-19 patients.
I grew up a little all over the world having been born in South Africa and having lived in Swaziland, Poland, Bosnia, Belgium, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Timor Leste, and Singapore where I completed my International Baccalaureate at the United World College of South East Asia. After completing my IB in 2014, I moved to Oxford to attend a 4 year-integrated Master’s course in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. After graduating from Oxford in the summer of 2018, I moved to Munich, Germany, for a virology internship at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. In February 2019 I began tutoring full time before the start of my PhD in October 2019.
I have over 7 years of tutoring experience in Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Geography. I tutored part time during my undergraduate years at university, and I tutored full time post-graduation from February 2019-September 2019. During my time in Munich, I built up an international tutoring network of over 20 full time students. Many of my students attend international schools and I know the iGCSE, GCSE, IB, A-Level, and EB (European Baccalaureate) syllabuses very well. I am currently tutoring part time in parallel to my PhD.
My tutoring style varies depending on the student. I usually start with topics that the student is fairly comfortable with, progressing quickly to new and more complex areas as their understanding grows. I tend to use past exam paper questions on a particular topic to check understanding as we're going through the topic. For IB and the IGCSE sciences and maths, I have made summary notes on each unit topic and have compiled past exam paper questions on that topic with answers. Once a student has grasped a topic, I shift my focus to exam technique: what to look for in exam questions, common pitfalls, and how to start tackling the more challenging questions. I believe that a clear and systematic approach is essential when studying for exams in the sciences. In addition to help understanding concepts and exam technique, I am also able to help with IB internal assessments such as the Maths exploration or the IB extended essays.
I worked as a teacher at Oxford Royale Academy in Oxford immediately after graduation. I taught Chemistry, Physics and Academic writing to classes of students aged 16-19. The class sizes were between 5-25 students. I really enjoy teaching a classroom of students, but I prefer the more personalised teaching approaches I can use with smaller groups of students.

Imperial College London: Year 1 of PhD MRes Distinction
I completed 3 rotations in different labs before starting my PhD project in the department of Immunology at St. Mary's hospital in Paddington.
I am an extremely active person and enjoy a variety of sports. I used to sail competitively internationally in the Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial Classes, and still sail during the holidays. Since being at university my love for rugby has also grown. However given my susceptibility to injury and clumsiness, I now only stick to Touch Rugby. I also boulder/rock climb as often as I can.

We can highly recommend Allison both as a tutor for maths and sciences, as well as a person. She tutored our 16 year old son who is in the IB programm of a British school abroad. She captured his attention for the entire duration of the lessons, in fact Allisons tutoring made him reconsider his career choices and engage fully in the science options of the IB programm! Her work ethics also rubbed off, she has suceeded where we as parents gave up...
Allison is most certainly the best academic tutor I have ever been able to call my teacher. Last year during my studies towards the GCSE’s, I had great difficulty in archiving my personal target grade in Chemistry and Biology, but with the help of Alisson, I was able to boost my grade up by almost a whole two grades in under 6 months. Without the great support from Alisson I doubt that I would have had so much success. Her incredible gift of teaching with great patients and eager transformed my studies to this day. I am very thankful to have found her and having her support me through a difficult time.
