About Alice
I am a Chartered Accountant but switched to teaching mathematics in 2016. I currently teach in an ofsted rated outstanding school, where I teach year 7 through to year 13 Further Maths. I have always given private maths tuition to A Level and GCSE students. I also have experience with 11+, 13+ and Common Entrance exams.
I have a First Class Honours mathematics degree from the University of Liverpool. In my final year I was awarded the Sampford Prize for outstanding academic achievement. I also received academic prizes in years 1 and 2 for being valedictorian.
My most recent further maths cohort at school (2022) achieved an 3A*s and 3As and a B, and achieved offers from Cambridge, Warwick, Bath, Royal Holloway, Nottingham and Sheffield.
I have had many successful pupils including one student being accepted by Cambridge University, after I had tutored him for maths and further maths.
I am currently the maths A Level tutor at Ipswich Town Football Club where I tutor the football scholars.
I have also had a student obtain full marks in a Core 4 module and most recently (2015 exams, AQA syllabus) a pupil obtain a double A in maths and further maths, improving his further maths prediction by 2 grade boundaries.
I enjoy getting to know my pupils and understanding the best way for each of them to learn. Everyone is different. The skill is to quickly identify the areas where each pupil is struggling and address these. To also then ensure that each pupil can attempt questions from a variety of topics all at once, and not in isolation.
I also derive real satisfaction from my pupils achieving their desired results. I am often more excited than them!
Agreeing to tutor you/your child, means I am 100% committed to obtaining the desired outcome. I am very honest with progress and often spend time outside of lessons preparing additional material for students to ensure we reach our target.
In my spare time I enjoy playing tennis, tabletennis, chess and the violin. I was a national junior tabletennis singles champion and won the world corporate games in 2006. I have more recently got into racketlon and represented Great Britain at the 2022 World Racketlon Championships in Vienna, where I achieved 2 silver medals and a bronze. I achieved Grade 8 on the violin at age 13. I am also a qualified tennis coach.
I have two young sons so am currently predominantly teaching online with some lessons taking place in my home. I find that using online interactive whiteboards are very good for teaching maths - it saves a lot of travel time (for both student and tutor) but also leaves a record of work covered that both student and tutor can access.

Lessons are very much focussed on student's misconceptions and gaps in knowledge.
Tutoring is key to building confidence and ironing out misunderstandings that can be picked up in the classroom. With one to one tuition, there is time for the tutor to unpick badly learned/taught topics and rebuild with a sounder knowledge and understanding.
My view is that the basics are extremely important in order to get a top grade at either GCSE or A Level. I will ensure that these are regularly revisited until in long term memory.
I have had a lot of success at both GCSE and A Level both as a tutor and with the exam results from the school I work at.

Alice tutored my daughter in further maths during her last year of A-levels. Having previously tried a couple of other tutors, it was clear from the first lesson that Alice was perfect for my daughter's needs. Firstly, she listened to the areas my daughter wanted to focus on, she was patient, clear, supportive and encouraging. She gave her the boost in self-belief and a fine-tuning of skills and exam technique needed to sit her A-levels with confidence.
Alice is a pragmatic, no-nonsense tutor. I felt that her approach to tutoring my daughter was efficient and effective. We only had about four or five sessions because I mainly wanted to make sure that my daughter understood how the exams would work and what she should focus on to be as successful as she could be. Alice did manage in that short time to teach my daughter several maths topics that had not yet been taught at school, yet did come up in the exam.
We contacted Alice late in the day (after trying three other tutors)to help my son get through his Maths A Level after an average AS and seriously worrying A2 mock results. Alice did a marvellous job in a short space of time building his confidence and explaining things clearly. He improved on his AS result getting a C and actually enjoyed the weekly lessons. Wish we had started earlier.
Alice tutored me for about 4 months before my university accounting exam re-take, she was very patient with me and has extremely good knowledge of the subject. She made my sessions fun and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I recommend her to anyone looking for tutoring for their children. Not only did she help me understand the maths, she is also very nice and approachable in the process of doing so.
Alice helped tutor me through my A2 levels. We started in September last year after me not doing as well as expected in my AS levels the previous year. Alice tremendously helped me through all 5 exams that I had. She has huge amounts of patience and knows how to explain maths in the simplest way possible to make it easiest to learn and understand.
Alice tutored my son for his A level Further Maths. Her tutoring sessions were well planned and she was always encouraging. She built up a very good rapport with my son and he enjoyed their sessions. I also recommended Alice to a friend whose daughter was taking GCSE statistics.
Alice did a fantastic job during our Statistics tutoring session. She took the time before our session to review and work on the Statistics assignment I had to complete, which enabled us to use the time extremely effectively. She walked me through each step and took the time to stop and explain whenever I got confused.
Alice started to tutor me when I was studying to take my A level maths. I was struggling with some of the pure maths and statistics modules and decided that some one to one tuition would help me. I needed to get a good result in my A level to secure my place at university. Alice took her time to explain aspects of the modules that I found difficult. She was very approachable and easy to speak to. I actually enjoyed the sessions with her and knew that I was learning more. Following my tuition I obtained an A in my A level maths.
I received tuition from Alice during my A level maths studies, whilst I was a member of year 14. Alice is a very personable and approachable tutor who helped me gain confidence in a range of subjects within the A level maths course.
We happened across Alice online and had never used tutoring before but my daughter (studying for GCSE at the time) was struggling due to having had a high turnover of teachers and math just not being one of her strengths. Alice was patient, understanding and extremely knowledgeable in the syllabus. Her teaching methods obviously worked- my daughter's grade improved from a low C to 1 mark off an A* in her final exam! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alice.
Alice tutored me in maths once a week for a year, she was punctual, very polite and professional. I feel that her teaching strategies benifited me greatly throughout high school.
Alice is an extremely good tutor. She spends a lot of her time helping with any problems you may have and is very attentive throughout the lessons. She is always organised and thoroughly prepared before the lesson, which enables her to devote all the lesson time to her pupil and their needs. She sets a lot of problems on areas you are less comfortable with and always goes through them thoroughly, until you are comfortable with all the material. The lessons are very helpful and I feel I gained a lot from them. I would definitely recommend her as a tutor.
