About ALFRED
Hello my name is Alfred. I am now teaching online using: Zoom, Skype, FaceTime or Whatsapp. With substantial language teaching experience already, I have recently upgraded my knowledge base with a Cambridge Assessment English Teaching English Online Certificate and also with a 'GA Level 3 Award in Teaching Business English'. I am well placed for online teaching.
I have 6 years of EFL experience since 2007. I have taught younger children, teenagers and adults in Italy, Tanzania and the UK. From 2015 to March 2020, I worked as an EFL teacher on a full time basis. During that time, I have undertaken 350 hours of 1-to-1 teaching.
I completed a ‘ GA Level 3 Award in Teaching Business English’, covering topics such as:
business listening, reading, speaking and writing skills, corporate structure, meetings, negotiations, needs analysis and other topics.
The Cambridge Assessment English Teaching English Online Course covered a variety of topics including: lesson planning, developing reading/ writing/ listening/ speaking skills, platforms, digital tools, classroom management, setting context and other topics. It was particularly interesting in terms of the use of digital tools and platforms for the provision of various aspects of online teaching. Also on the 8th April 2020, I attended a Cambridge Assessment English webinar on teaching English online.
Experienced in the classroom, I use the techniques I have established there, in the different and unique context of 1-to-1 teaching. 1-to-1 teaching often moves at a speed dictated by the student rather then having to follow a structure set by an institution or by the teacher. Materials may be sourced or found together with the teacher.
Students in 1-to-1 lessons are usually highly motivated. Both teacher and student get a better opportunity to interact with each other and learn from each other. There is an opportunity to establish a clear set of objectives for the student and for the teacher to know exactly what the student wants from the class. At the same time, it is possible to use techniques taken from the classroom such as role plays and games with the individual student and this is an aspect of my teaching style. My objective is always to make the lessons as interesting as possible, responding to the needs of individual students. I use multimedia such as: Youtube film clips, music and Google images.
For role plays I often use, ‘Role Plays for Today’ by Jason Anderson, who taught me when I was training. The role plays cover various situations such as: ordering food in a restaurant, buying clothes, checking into a hotel, going to the doctors, checking in for a flight, buying train tickets and many other situations. Again, their use would be designed around individual student requirements.
Depending on the student, I may follow a course book. Practice papers every 4 or 5 weeks can be useful if a student is preparing for an exam, but this may not be the case.
In respect of my work to date, I would highlight my experience in preparing students for the Trinity College London Graded Examinations in Spoken English exams Grades 2-9, University of Cambridge English exams: Starters, Movers, Flyers, A2 Key, B1 Preliminary, B2 First and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). I also have experience in supervising students doing sports and going on excursions.
Students I have taught came from: Algeria, Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Palestine, Peru, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Venezuela.
I am therefore well qualified to tutor students in the beginner, pre intermediate and intermediate levels that I have chosen to offer.

I have worked with Alfred since January 2017. He is a hard-working, organised, enthusiastic and motivated teacher, and is able to establish a very good rapport with his students. Alfred uses a wide variety of teaching methods and materials, and his lessons are more student- centred. He would never take on any commitment that he could not fulfil. Therefore, I can recommend him for an English Language teaching post.

We are glad to be Alfred Letley's referee. He has worked with us in two different school terms as TEFL INSTRUCTOR to Italian students. He has worked with small and large groups, students aged 12 upwards. He's punctual, reliable, hardworking, honest . He's good in class management
