I am Head of sixth form at KCS Wimbledon and a teacher of economics, and Alex's pastoral and academic 'tutor': I oversee his progress through the school. Alex is an outstandingly intelligent young man, who has progressed through the extremely challenging IB diploma with relative ease. The breadth of the course means he has an extremely wide range of knowledge and understands the context of material he has learnt (and will be teaching). During the past two years at KCS, Alex has been teaching at a couple local primary school on volunteer basis. He has lead the activities of a group of students to help and inspire young pupils in a variety of learning support sessions. He has ably developed the bonds of trust so vital for pupils, including those with specialist educational needs. I have no doubt Alex will make an excellent tutor: he is mature, a natural with kids, empathetic and crucially, excellent at explaining concepts.
Year 5 learning support
Alex has volunteered in 2 local primary schools over the last 18 months, providing learning support to year 5 students in English and Maths, and also presenting sessions of his own devising on campcraft and the outdoors. Throughout this time he has been very reliable and professional, and has struck up a warm and friendly rapport with his students.
