About Adam
As a graduate of both the Royal Academy of Music (BMus First Class Honours) and the University of Cambridge (MPhil), my teaching style has been described as witty, sensitive and erudite.
Teaching Philosophy:
I endeavour to provide lessons that nurture an innate enthusiasm for music, technical mastery of the instrument, and a healthy sense of self confidence. I tailor all my lessons to the individual needs and aspirations of each and every student; actively listening to and learning from them, thus ensuring a consistently bilateral exchange of ideas.
Teaching Experience:
I qualified with the LRAM Diploma in Piano Teaching from the Royal Academy of Music, and have over six years experience as a tutor. I have received invitations to give workshops and masterclasses across in the UK and overseas, most recently in India and Hong Kong. I tutor students of all ages and abilities; from young children to working adults, and from the aspiring professional musician to the casual learner.
Biography:
Acclaimed by The Sunday Times for the verve and spirit of his performances, Adam Heron is swiftly earning a reputation as one of the most innovative pianists of his generation. Winner of the 2020 Harriet Cohen Bach Prize, Adam rose to prominence following his television debut in 2018 as a BBC Young Musician piano finalist. Through his unique artistry, coupled with an innate public appeal and flair for communication, he has become a leading ambassador for classical music across the UK and abroad.
Born in Hong Kong, Adam commands a demanding schedule of international engagements, featuring performances at distinguished venues such as the Southbank Centre and Royal Albert Hall in London, the International Center for Arts in Cairo, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai. He has performed alongside eminent musicians including double-bassist Chi-chi Nwanoku CBE, soprano Francesca Chiejina, and cellist Laura van der Heijden, as well as with high-ranking conductors including David Curtis, Dwight Pile-Gray, and Jonathon Heyward.
He is currently working in collaboration with the Bibliothèque nationale de France on a project to revive ten unpublished keyboard sonatas by the eighteenth-century Guadalopean Creole composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges, culminating in a rare performance on 27th April 2023 at St John’s Smith Square.
A laureate of the Stefano Marizza International Piano Competition in Italy and the International Piano Competition HRH Princess Lalla Meryem in Morocco, he studied with Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Generously supported by Irish Heritage, The Keyboard Charitable Trust, The Musicians’ Company, and The Talent Unlimited Foundation, Adam recently completed an MPhil at the University of Cambridge. He currently studies with Penelope Roskell in London.
