Summary of the Play

"An Inspector Calls" is a play by J.B. Priestley about a young woman named Eva Smith who kills herself. The Birling family, who are celebrating their daughter Sheila's engagement, have no idea about what happened to Eva. Suddenly, a strange man called Inspector Goole comes in and tells them that Eva killed herself by drinking disinfectant. The family is confused and doesn't know why the Inspector is there. But as he starts to ask them questions, they become more and more uncomfortable. Eventually, they realize that they all played a part in Eva's death, and they feel very guilty about it. The play talks about how people can be affected by the actions of others, and how our choices can have serious consequences.
