About UKMT
The United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) organizes national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11-18 year old students. The intermediate challenge is a 60 minute, multiple choice questions test.
Intermediate Follow Up Challenges (Grey and Pink Kangaroo)
The follow on round to the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge is the grey kangaroo which is a 60 minute-multiple choice based test. The test comprises of 25 questions. The eligible year groups for grey kangaroo are:
- Scotland: S2 or below
- England and Wales: Year 9 and below
- Northern Ireland: Year 10 or below
Another follow on round to the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge is pink kangaroo. It is also a 60 minute, multiple choice based test that has 25 questions.
UK based students who have qualified from the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge are invited to participate in this test. It implies that this test is an invitation based test and is depends on the qualifying score which is different for every year. .
What is the Aim of this Test?
The problems in the intermediate mathematical challenge compel the students to think. This test encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in students so that they can employ primary mathematical techniques to solve interesting mathematical problems. This article provides some sample questions along with the answers from the previous years.
How to Prepare for this Test?
Participating in intermediate mathematical challenge offers a great learning experience for all the students. To prepare for this test, students can take help from past papers and solutions which are attached here in this article. These resources are also freely available on the UKMT website.
