Context of the Poem 'Refugee Blues' by W.H Auden

Penned by the British poet W.H. Auden, "Refugee Blues" was initially released in 1939, just before the onset of World War II. The poem serves as a reflection on the struggles of refugees who were compelled to leave Nazi Germany but could not secure shelter elsewhere. By doing so, it tackles more extensive themes of seclusion, desolation, and displacement. Through its vivid imagery, the poem effectively portrays the anguish and torment of being forced to abandon one's home and the despair of being unable to locate a secure and peaceful abode in a world fraught with violence and uncertainty.
