About OCR-MEI A level Maths

OCR-MEI A-level Maths consists of three components: pure mathematics and mechanics, pure mathematics and statistics, and pure mathematics and comprehension.

Syllabus

Pure mathematics includes the following topics:

•  proof
• algebra
• graphs
• sequences
• trigonometry
• logarithms
• calculus
• vectors

Mechanics includes the following topics:

• kinematics
• motion under gravity
• working with forces including friction, Newton’s laws and simple moments

Statistics include the following topics:

• working with data from a sample to make inferences about a population
• probability calculations
• using binomial and Normal distributions as models and statistical hypothesis testing.

Three Exams

At the end of the course, there will be the following three examination papers which will assess the candidate's ability"

• Pure Mathematics and Mechanics (Component 1):  It is a 2 hour exam that assesses the candidate's skills in pure mathematics and mechanics
• Pure Mathematics and Statistics (Component 2): It is also a 2 hour exam that assesses the candidate's skills in pure mathematics and statistics
• Pure Mathematics and Comprehension (Component: 3): This 2 hour course will assess the candidate's ability in pure mathematics
