About QTS Numeracy Tests
Each test contains 28 questions made up of 12 mental arithmetic questions and 16 written data questions (written arithmetic and written data), plus a practice question that is not scored. All questions carry 1 mark regardless of the number of required responses.
The test format can be difficult because of the timer for the mental arithmetic section. A candidate taking this test will only get 18 seconds to answer the question after the second repeat. For the written data section of the test, it can be hard for the candidate to use the online calculator. Hence, it is recommended that the candidate should solve several past papers before sitting in the test.
Let us dive into the two sections of the QTS Numeracy tests.
Mental Arithmetic Section
This section is an audio based test, hence the candidate is required to use headphones. It contains 12 questions and it assesses the candidate's ability to solve arithmetic questions. These questions cover the following topics:
- the four basic operations
- time
- fractions
- decimals
- percentages
- measurement
- conversions
Written Arithmetic and Data Analysis Section
This section of the test contains series of problems to assess the candidates ability to interpret and use the written data to recognize trends, compare and interpret information or data. In this section, the candidate's ability to solve written arithmetic questions in different areas is tested. These areas include:
- time
- money
- proportion and ratio
- conversions
- averages and ranges.
