About STEP Exam

STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper) is a maths exam designed to test candidates on questions that are similar to undergraduate mathematics. The University of Cambridge, the University of Warwick and Imperial College London employ the STEP exam as the basis for conditional offers. Sometimes, other universities also require the potential candidates to take STEP as part of their offer, however, in such cases, the university can advise on which papers to take.

STEP Test Format

From 2021, STEP 1 no longer exists, whereas, STEP 2 and STEP 3 remained. It is a 3-hour based exam in which candidates are required to sit in either one or two of the examinations, i.e. STEP 2 and STEP 3. Graph paper is not required for this exam because the test contains sketches only rather than detailed graphs.
