Learn about the Italian language through the Manchester Italian Association

The MIA or Manchester Italian Association is one of the oldest Italian associations in the UK, tracing its roots back to 1888! You can count them to organize events throughout the year to promote the welfare of the Italian community, it's history, culture and heritage, and bring together young people in the community.

One of the most high profile event they host is the Italian Procession which takes place every July. This involves the carrying of different religious emblems ( the Madonna, the Calvary, St. Anthony and beautiful banners) throughout the city, from Manchester city centre, passing by the Town Hall, and to the Catholic cathedral of St. John in Salford.

The procession is accompanied by the Lord Mayors of Manchester and Salford, members from the Italian consulate, women dressing in the colourful regional clothing of Italy, children in their first communion outfits, and culminates in a service led by the Bishop of Salford. All of this is followed by a festive gathering with accordion music, food and drinks. If you are interested in the Italian language and culture, it's definitely worthwhile to check it out!
