Finding the Perfect Physics Tutor in Birmingham

If you're looking to get better at physics to get onto a university course or to get jobs, you can improve your level in it (or any science) with the help of private tutors. If you find the teaching in Birmingham's primary or secondary schools, private tutoring can provide support to students to get the most out of their time while studying at home rather than solely relying on the education provided by the government.

There are a lot of good physics jobs around but most will require a Physics degree. Most BSc Hons degrees have quite demanding entry requirements so before you study physics at university, you'll need to make sure you're good at it, have the right exam results (including subjects like maths, biology, and chemistry), and are benefitting from high-quality teaching, especially if you're not getting it at school or the teacher has too many students to teach effectively.

Why it's Important to Study Physics

Becoming a qualified science teacher, a physicist, or researcher, for example, takes years of study and, more often than not, a physics degree (or qualification at a similar level). Even if you're not planning on going to university, it's still an important subject to study, which is why we also study it for years at secondary school.

If biology is the study of life and chemistry is the study of matter, physics is the study of everything. From particle physics, which looks at how the smallest things in our universe work, to astronomy, which looks at stars, planets, and galaxies behave, you could argue that it's the most important science taught in schools.

If you're good at physics, you'll also be good at other subjects. The analytical skills used to study it will be useful in other sciences and the humanities and since it relies heavily on mathematics, your numeracy skills will also improve.

Finally, there are very few jobs in physics you can get without any formal education in the subject.

Areas of Physics Studied at School

As we mentioned before, physics is probably one of the broadest scientific fields around so it's nearly impossible to mention everything you can learn by studying physics (with or without tutoring).

As students in Birmingham will follow the English curriculum, to make things clearer, here are the main things you'd learn about when studying physics at GCSE level (the end of Key Stage 4) to give you a better idea of what's involved.

This is the final part of obligatory secondary education so every pupil in Birmingham will have to study this before leaving school.

Energy

Energy comes in many different types and when you study physics, you study how energy is stored, how it's used, and how to calculate work, power, and efficiency.

Electricity

Electricity and how it behaves is also part of physics. Students at GCSE will study electric circuits, mains electricity, and static electricity work.

Particle Model of Matter

While you might think that you'll only be studying particles in chemistry, since a chemical's behaviour is affected by the physical forces of your universe, too, it is also studied as part of physics.

Atomic Structure

Like with particles, physics can be used to explain the structure and behaviour of some of the smallest things in our universe including the atom. Each student learns about atoms, isotopes, and ions, radioactive decay, the use and dangers of radiation, and nuclear fission and fusion.

Forces

Whenever objects move or interact, forces are at play and the study of physics can help you better understand these forces. At GCSE, students study both contact and non-contact forces, elasticity, pressure, momentum, and acceleration.

Waves

When studying waves in physics, we're not just talking about the sea (though they are included). In physics, waves include physical waves, light (and electromagnetic waves), and sound waves.

Magnetism and Electromagnetism

You'll come across magnetism and electromagnetism when studying energy, forces, atomic structure, and waves, but this branch of physics has so much depth that at GCSE level, it also is studied independently.

Space Physics

We said that physics is the study of everything and we weren't lying. Whether you want to study atoms or planets, physics is the way to go. At GCSE, the student learns about our solar system, the life cycle of a star, and the expanding universe.

Practical Skills

Finally, much like with other sciences, the student learns the practical skills for effectively carrying out scientific investigation and experiments.

Beyond GCSE, Birmingham is home to many good sixth forms and colleges and several good universities. The University of Birmingham, for example, is a member of the prestigious Russell Group and offers a Physics degree which is studied over three years.

Challenges in Physics

There's no doubt that physics is a fascinating subject but with so much information to take in and so many concepts to understand, it's understandable why it's not everyone's favourite subject.

If you're studying it to take your studies further, then you probably love it. However, if you're looking to study another science or specialise in a particular part of it, you mightn't love all of it.

Most students who don't like physics also don't like maths and there's a lot of the latter in the former. Without a good foundation in maths, you'll struggle through a large number of the topics that physics covers. Learning more about one will help you in the other.

While all the main sciences at GCSE (biology, chemistry, physics) include some maths, physics relies on it more than the others. Of course, physics tutors (or maths tutors) can help you to hone your numeracy skills and with private tuition, as the student is free to focus on the aspects of a subject they struggle with.

Physics involves studying a lot of conceptual things at a level that we can't directly experience and the student may struggle to visualise certain ideas and theories, especially when they're at an atomic or galactic level.

Private Tutoring in Physics

There are private tutors all over the UK, the West Midlands, and Birmingham, so finding quality tutoring one won't be a problem. There are also online tutors available so you can get support, advice, and tuition from somebody who's already been to uni to study physics and has several years teaching experience or someone working in the field.

If it's been a few years since you've studied or you're lacking experience, that's not a problem, either. Tutors can help mature students, too!

At primary and secondary school, for example, each child learns differently so tutors can adapt their teaching style to match.

Finding a Physics Tutor

Superprof is here to help you get better at physics (or any other subject). Just look for physics tutors and you'll see that you're spoilt for choice in terms of tuition. Here's some good advice: check to see if they offer their first lesson for free. If they do, you can see if they're right for you and if they're not, try out a new tutor. Fortunately for you, plenty of the tutors in Birmingham do!

Finally, since the rates per hour in Birmingham are far more reasonable than a lot of other cities in the country (like London), there's never been a better time.
