How does Tutorfair work?

Tutorfair allows tutors to create their own profiles and set their own prices. You can read all about a tutor (watch the video if there is one) and make your own choice. Please contact tutors to agree on lesson times before booking. Every lesson includes an optional donation to the Tutorfair Foundation, working with inner-city schools to provide tuition to children who can't afford it.

How can I contact a tutor?

Looking at the tutor's profile page, you should see a box on the left-hand side that says "Contact tutor". Click the "email" button to send a message to the tutor. We ask all tutors to reply within 24hrs and will chase up any that don't. When a tutor sends you a message, you will need to log in to your Tutorfair account to reply.

How do I book a lesson?

Please contact the tutor first to make sure the time and location are agreed on. When you have agreed the lesson time, go to the tutor's profile page and click that time slot in the tutor's Availability calendar*. This will add to lesson to your 'basket' so that you can pay for it. A lesson is not 'booked' until it has been paid for! After making your payment through Paypal, you will be taken to a form to fill in your details so the tutor knows where to go. *If by any chance the agreed time slot isn't visible, please use the contact details below - we can fix that.

Why are the prices so different?

All tutors on Tutorfair create their own profiles, including lesson prices. Our tutors range from undergraduates earning a little pocket-money, to full-time professional education experts with decades of experience. Different customers have different requirements, and every tutor will be 'just perfect' for someone! Bear in mind that booking a tutor with a cheaper hourly rate might not work out cheaper in the long run, if you end up needing more lessons.

Why do I have to pay in advance?

We guarantee the cost of every first lesson - if you are dissatisfied with a tutor after the first booking, please let us know within 48 hours to claim your refund. If your tutor does not arrive, of course we will refund your money - again, please let us know within 48 hours. We go to great lengths to look after our customers and make sure that our tutors are reliable, professional and safe. It's only fair that we should look after the tutors too. Taking payment details in advance of each lesson creates a record of where the tutor is and with whom - this is important for tutor safety. Taking payment in advance also protects our tutors from clients who might cancel at the last minute, or fail to turn up.
