Customer Experience Manager

This role is all about making a difference. Don’t feel that you have to spend your days doing something boring, unfulfilling, or that you’re not really excited about.

Instead, join us to make a noticeable impact on the lives of our users every day, through daily interactions over the phone and email, and by applying your insights to help guide product improvements. Become an integral member of the team and have a tangible impact on how a business is run.

Tutorfair is an online marketplace for private tutors. We are on a mission to connect tutors and students across the UK, whatever the student’s background.

We’re currently one of the largest of our kind in the UK, and are looking to expand across the country. With our investors from Secret Escapes, Toptable, HouseTrip and Achica we are focused and committed to becoming the way that everyone books their tutors.

Tutorfair is at the stage where we have a fully functional product and thousands of customers. We have a clear roadmap of how to improve and ensure that the company continues to grow.

We have lots of customers and tutors joining every day, and keeping them delighted with the service that they receive from us is absolutely imperative as we grow.

This is why we would like you to join us :)

Ensuring our users have an awesome experience whenever they interact with Tutorfair is of utmost importance to us. As the number of clients and tutors joining us grows each week, we need some extra intellect on how to continue delivering a fun and professional service for everyone involved.

No day is truly the same, and so it is probably best to describe a typical month. You will be responsible for the following things within the business:

  • Delighting users by responding quickly to queries via phone and email and proactively suggesting improvements to the way they’re using Tutorfair.
  • Helping drive sales by matching clients to fantastic tutors when they ask for help: this is all about providing a personalised service and human touch for our customers that is so lacking in other online marketplaces.
  • Working with the Head of Customer Experience to maintain the day-to-day processes for tasks such as paying tutors, chasing invoices, processing DBS checks and training new members of staff.
  • Contributing qualitative and quantitative insights on how users are interacting with Tutorfair to help improve the site.
  • Working with the Head of Customer Experience to help push sales by contributing to comms, for example monthly client newsletters and blogs.
  • Identifying technical issues, reporting bugs and helping solve problems with the customer experience and tech teams.

  • You have effortlessly excellent communication skills: you are able to chat to clients and tutors from all walks of life, from a concerned parent to a PhD astrophysicist.
  • You are a radiator: you can form a quick rapport, delight with your charm and love to meet and chat to new people. Of all of the 7 dwarves, you most relate to Happy.
  • You are calm under pressure: people you chat to are likely chucking all sorts of problems your way, many of which you may not be able to definitely answer. You will remain calm. You will be able to reassure them, and you’ll follow your intuition to get an answer. And then probably take a sip of tea.
  • You are a good listener: absorbing and empathising with a user’s problem is the first step to solving it.
  • You are an independent thinker: this is a problem solving role, and you’ll relish predicting problems before they arise, and finding solutions for problems you never thought of. You will actively contribute to the company’s evolution and enjoy making things better.
  • You are data savvy: you have the know how (even if basic) on how to interpret data and plan from it.
  • You must believe in reducing educational inequality: this is our raison d’etre. You’ll be on board with our mission to make education fairer for all.
  • You're a real keen-o and have proof that you can make stuff happen: attitude is more important than experience, and if you’ve already mastered email etiquette and execution of projects you promised yourself you’d do, then that's amazing.

  • You have experience using a range of CRMs: we use Freshdesk for tickets, CloudCall for inbound and outbound calls and Olark for chat. No worries if not, we’ll get you up to speed in no time.
  • You have professional and/or sales experience: Attitude is more important than experience, but bonus marks if you’ve already mastered email etiquette and execution of projects you promised yourself you’d do.
  • You have done some tutoring yourself: knowing the industry that we are working in and being able to offer suggestions from the front line is a bonus.

What does the future with us look like?

We are one of the current UK market leaders. Our job is to now make this the mainstream way to book a tutor and increase the number of people using our service, in doing so growing the size of the company and the number of students that we can help. As we grow, you grow.

Management is open to new ideas so you’ll have the opportunity to think creatively and grow. Personal development is very important here at Tutorfair so you’ll have the chance to learn new skills - whether that is using SQL, learning to code, getting involved with design, running events, or giving small presentations.

We’re a small team taking on a big opportunity. Each person has their own area of focus (marketing, analytics, product, coding), and you’ll often find yourself jumping in to help someone or asking someone to help you. This is a chance to make great friends and get fully involved in making a business and charity flourish.

Compensation and useful info

  • 22k-25k depending on experience
  • Flexible working options (ideally you’d be able to travel into London for events and training when required)
  • 25 days of holiday + bank holidays
  • Small and social team with regular outings (in non-pandemic times - if not regular virtual Taskmaster challenges!)
  • Weekly one-on-one meetings to ensure you are working on projects you enjoy
