During February half term, two Tutorfair volunteers went to Harris Academy Peckham to help small groups of  students with their GCSE science.

Below are a few words from the Staff, Students and Tutors about  the holiday revision sessions and what it's like to volunteer for Tutorfair.

Alison Cooper - The Head of Science at Harris Academy said she was "impressed by the tutors, in particular their enthusiasm and ability to improve the confidence of the students they taught."

Alison went on  to say that she'd "noticed a great improvement in attitude to learning of her students in normal lessons,  after receiving tutoring in half term"

Lottie Greenhalgh - a Science Teacher at the school added that "[the revision programme] was a great success"  highlighting that all students wanted to receive more tutoring in the future.

What did the students find useful bout the tutoring sessions?

Denisha, a student at HAP said she "liked being the focus of teaching"  While Abdul mentioned "being able to work at my own pace" as the most useful part of the sessions.

Peter K, one of the volunteer tutors, said "it was so much fun volunteering at Harris Academy.  The students really appreciated the support and were so eager to learn" adding that  "being able to tutor in a school is such valuable experience for a private tutor like myself"

Madeleine K

"It was great participating in this revision session; I especially loved having access to full classroom resources. The kids were excellent, they were really keen to work in such a small, focused group and the impact was immediately visible".
