This project, originally set up to run from March to May, was disrupted by the school closures and subsequent exam cancellations. For those students who weren’t awarded a pass by the automatic grading system, this was a distressing period and, unfortunately, a missed opportunity to benefit from some added support before sitting the exams.
When the college reopened in September, we acted quickly to put together a six-week intensive tutoring programme for 22 students hoping to gain a pass in exams scheduled for the first week of November.
Attendance for the programme was high, with students accessing online lessons from college using devices provided for them. Early feedback from students, tutors and school staff is positive and we are excited to announce the impact of the programme on pass rates for the cohort in January.
Enormous thanks to the 13 awesome volunteers who took part in the project – as well as to the staff at Leyton Sixth Form Centre and Middlesex University who made it possible.
