Tell us a little bit about you
I was very lucky to be in my final year of A-Levels when schools closed meaning that I didn't really miss out on any teaching but I know that most students weren't as fortunate. After my A-Level exams were cancelled, I decided to use my free time to help out with the Tutorfair Foundation. Since then, I have started my first-year of university studying towards an economics degree.
How have you found tutoring online?
Being able to tutor online has meant that I can continue tutoring even while going to university and can fit my tutoring sessions in-between lectures, supervisions, sports and anything else that's going on. Tutoring online definitely takes some getting used to but with some practice I found that it actually provides a range of options for teaching that you don't have in-person.
How have you found the technology?
The online platform is definitely easy to use. With a subject like maths I found that a tablet that you can write on is incredibly useful. My only problem has been that it's hard for students to write their own answers and I often end up writing as they speak; although this has meant that I get to see their thought process in a new way which is really useful.
Would you recommend the program to other tutors?
Absolutely, I have really enjoyed tutoring and have gained so much from it in terms of organisation and communication skills. Especially now it can be done online, it's practical and a lot of fun and a great new experience.
