The Tutorfair Foundation works with the Stretch Academy to provide volunteer tutors at Stretch's afterschool tutorials. The children selected for the Stretch sessions are handpicked by their school teachers and benefit hugely in terms of confidence and excitement for learning, which comes from that extra dose of mental gymnastics beyond the classroom.

Andy Love inspires

Last month, Edmonton MP Andy Love came to visit the Stretch Academy and meet our tutors, getting stuck into some good ol' algebra and teasing out the potential from some of London's bright young minds. Here's Alex Lee, Director of the Stretch Academy, after Andy's exciting visit.

"At Stretch Academy we're very proud of the children we tutor. They're hardworking, smart and brave, and we like to make sure they know it. On January 15th, MP Andy Love visited our afterschool session to work with our children and to talk with them about their aspirations. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to explain their work and to meet a high profile member of our community who believes in them just as much as their teachers do. Our local MP talked algebra and ambitions, took a group through a verbal reasoning paper and quizzed the students about their secondary school applications. We're hugely grateful to Andy for coming down in his free time, and for so effortlessly showing our children at Stretch how important and valued they are."
