How to Avoid the Academic Summer Slide

August 11, 2021 by Hannah
Image As many students are receiving their results this week, we know how important it is that they have some down time and R&R. However, it is also key to help your child keep up the momentum and avoid the "summer slump". Just a few lessons of tutoring over the summer holidays can help students feel better prepared for the term ahead.

Here are some of the ways we can continue to support your learning for the rest of summer:

Try something new

Taking up a hobby can be an excellent way to help create structure, cope with stress, and even learn a new skill! From instrumental lessons to art and drama classes, there are so many hobbies for children to explore and Tutorfair is the best place to find tutors looking to inspire their pupils - most tutors will be only too happy to help students rediscover the joy of learning over summer.

Find free resources

Whether it be GCSE, A-Level or beyond, accessing the right support and resources are crucial for your child to help them prepare and get the very best grades. Our fantastic community of tutors have produced free resources for all subjects and levels for students to access to help build in confidence and ability, including texts from Hamlet and Othello, French GCSE reading tests and much more. We recently compiled some of the top free English GCSE resources our tutors have to offer.

Join a study group

Last year, we launched our Online Study Groups project for students! Run by top Tutorfair tutor’s, small groups were formed with the primary focus to help support students, from 11 Plus to A-Level, catch up on lost learning during the pandemic.

Working with our experienced tutors, groups of up to five classmates were formed to provide an engaging and collaborative environment online for the participating students, and importantly enable them to continue working alongside their peers. For parents, small group tuition allows access to top tutor’s at affordable rates whilst also mitigating academic slide.

We have several GCSE groups currently running including: GCSE English Literature: An Inspector Calls  to GCSE Science Study Groups. We are also launching our FREE Maths with Mark: Back to School course this September.

Find a tutor

Now is the perfect time to start thinking ahead and ensure you book in the best tutor for you. Although it might feel strange to start preparing for the next academic year, September can be an extremely busy month and you want to make sure that you can arrange and book lessons with your favourite tutor before it's too late!
