What got you into online tutoring and volunteering?
Until a year ago, I was a classroom teacher at a school in the West Midlands. I stepped down in order to embark on an MA in Mathematics Education. However, I didn’t want to stop teaching altogether so I decided to do some tutoring alongside my studies.
How have you found tutoring online?
I didn’t think tutoring online would suit me at all, but I adapted quickly and was surprised to find it just as rewarding as face-to-face teaching. It works very well and I no longer think of it as a second-best solution.
How have you found the online tutoring technology?
My first lesson using Bramble was quite difficult as I was trying to master the technology as well as get to know my student. In addition, my student didn’t have a camera on his device so the entire set of lessons was conducted without us ever “meeting” or seeing each other’s faces - a very strange experience initially, but one I got used to in the end!
Would you recommend the programme to other tutors?
I would recommend this programme to anyone. It’s great to feel you are making a difference in a young person’s life and helping them to achieve their potential.
